Forums - Nintendo - So uh, no MGSV, Dark Souls II, BioShock Infinite, MG Rising, GTAV, etc. for Wii U ...

I always assumed it was just to do with the time-frame for these type of games. Haven't GTA V and Bioshock Infinite been in development since at least 2010, if not 2009? So depending on when Nintendo approached them to try and get the games released on Wii-U, it may well have been too late to contemplate starting development for a third system. Especially in Bioshock's case, I wouldn't have thought their team would have had the resources.

It sucks for those people who don't own a PS360, but I wouldn't worry yet. If by this time next year if big games are still being missed out on, then it may be time to start asking questions!

lets all panic guys!! no third party games in development on the wiiU !!.

Yay!!!! I want to panic too! :o) Even if my worries don't make a difference in the outcome of the gen, let's do it!

Yeah, actually this is a glass half full kind of thread. The WiiU is getting a lot more than what the Wii got, and that's already a good step up. Give it time, with some legs for 3rd party multiplats (which we have yet to see), it is a momentum thing.

Anyways, YAY FOR PANIC!!!!! You rock guys, keep it up. Making vgchartz an awesome place to browse since 2010.

lol !..

and to add to this.. lets keep making threads each time there is NO news about the games "MGSV, Dark Souls II, Bioshock Infinite, MG Rising, GTAV" coming to the wiiU .. exactly the same format as this thread right here!.. but 1 each for those individual games!..

and we can continue to Panic.. at the disco even..

I have a gut feeling that gtaV and bioshock infinite will be coming to the wii u eventually. Don't ask me the reasons - i just have a feeling :)

If they're not released day and date or at least within a month of the PS3/360 versions, they're going to bomb on Wii U and then the devs will just use that to say "see ... nothing sells on Wii U".

It's a total set up for failure.

I'd buy these games on the wii u regardless. Im still waiting for resident evil 6 on the wii u (if that ever happens).

Creating high quality original content could be the way to go.

i don't have numbers but from impression ZombiU seems to be doing well and rayman legends will do well ( hopeful it will sell over 1 million)

However Im afraid 3rd party success stories will be few and far between.

i fear that bayonetta 2 and the wonderful 101 will bomb hard on the wii u.

3rd Party games on the Wii U will either be:

1. Shoverlware in the same vein as most wii games

2. Milked franchises ( COD, Skylanders, EA Sports games)

3. Licensed games

It's not all that bad, i expect strong support from japanese developers. Looking at current trends Japanese developers have been generous with nintendo support (looking at 3ds support) - hopefully this continues.

Bet with ninjablade:

Ninjablade wins if the next 5 multiplat on the wii u are inferior to the 360 version.

I win if one of the 5 mulitplats are on par or superior on the Wii U.

I can't say I'm surprised by the lack of 3rd party games for the Wii U at VGAs. Like many of already said, these games have been in development for several years now. Many of these developers had already invested into a PS3/360 combo long before the Wii U's release. When you say developers don't care about the Wii U, there is some truth to that statement. You correct in that developers don't care enough about the Wii U to add it in, mid-development. But for newer games which have recently started development, I think we'll see a much greater portion of games released for the console. Not to mention the fact that the games you listed have decent chance of being ported to the Wii U later.

But at the same time, I won't pretend that this isn't a negative sign for the console. Nintendo has stated that they are serious about targetting third parties and 'hardcore' gamers. If that's true, then it's a bad sign when so many big games will miss your console. Sure, it may get late ports, but if they want to be competitive with Sony and Microsoft in the 3rd party development, they're going to need same-day releases eventually. For big games announced for 2013 so far, the Wii U will either be ignored completely, it'll get late ports, or there's going to be a lot of surprise Wii U announcements just before release. I hope, for Nintendo's sake, it's the later. If not, it's going to be a pretty weak 2013 for Wii U in terms of 3rd parties.

I don't know what to expect at this point (I don't even know if developers know what they're going to do). If these 2013 games don't release for the Wii U, or are late ports, then the Wii U's first year won't be very successful at accomplishing Nintendo's goal of attracting 3rd parties and 'hardcore' gamers. This sort of trend cannot continue into later years into the console's life. In no way is 2013 (or what it looks like so far) an acceptable model for 3rd party support. It's clear that there needs to be some change. Will that happen? I don't know.

Ultimately, I think the Wii U's 3rd party support is going to depend on the developer's ability to make games too strong for the system. If developers are able to make games too strong for the Wii U with ease, then I see many of them releasing games mainly for the PS4/720, while treating the Wii U like a secondary console (similar to this generation). If most 3rd party games cannot efficiently produce games of such power, then I don't think the Wii U will have a problem getting consistent same-day releases. At this point, I don't know what's going to happen.

MGRising is coming to PS3/360 (maybe PC, can't remember?) - no WiiU version announced.

Its funny you mention rising. When Shibata said "we have another game from platinum" that is what I saw coming. Its probably too late for rising. But still stealing the main entry in the series makes up for missing out on a spin off in my view. If dark souls was announced doesn't that mean it may still get announced for wii u or has that been ruled out?

Two games have pretty much been leaked. Splinter cell rumors were soing the rounds since before e3 and retailers still say it is getting on there. Nothing confirmed though. Ghost sniper 2 (or whatever it was) was rated for wii u by esrb. Still nothing though. But that one got pulled. Must be another 'mistake'.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

It's a bit disappointing to know that the tending to next-gen titles are not getting their ports for this console. It seems the third party devs are not getting convinced with the hardware and a common engine for PS4 and 720. After that whole thread of GPGPU and related sources, it seems the GPGPU functionality too is having less advantage, or somehow not getting used to it's true potential. Hope this issue is settled, but then Orbis and Durango might completely blow it out of the water with what they deliver. The holdiay season sales of Wii U launch in Europe has been not upto the mark. This is not a good sign, probably indicating that most gamers have already hooked themselves up for the next holiday launch of either PS4 or 720, with higher expectations,

If there´s a Western 3rd party you can count on supporting the Wii U, it´s Ubisoft.

Personally, I´m more curious to see things after the other next gen systems are launched...for example, even if the Wii U gets a (late) port of GTA V, who knows if it´ll also get its version of GTA VI...because, that one will certainly be released for the next Xbox and PS.

If some of those Western 3rd party games (such as GTA V, Bioshock Infinite, etc.) indeed get ported to the Wii U, even if it´s months after 360/PS3, does it mean support for Wii U from those companies will be looking good when it comes to the next gen GTA/Bioshock/etc?

Right hardware, right price, but at the wrong time. It's getting treated as a secondary console even in this generation. My previous comment holds common points.

The problem is that the developer side of this industry is split into two groups:

1) Those who want to develop the highest tech and most badass complex games possible

2) Those who are focusing on new experiences on phones/tablets

Wii U falls into the middle category. Very few developers care for it. They might, however, if/when the high end market crashes under its own pressure.

This is generally my impression too.  WiiU isn't powerful enough to compete with 720/PS4 (probably) and isn't a true tablet so it won't get help from those developers either.   Even big companies like EA/Ubisoft etc are focusing more and more on tablets/smartphones and as devices like Anchros, WikiPad and Ouya hit the market, that will only increase.

WiiU is off on it's own.   Wii was too but it got away with it because it scooped up the entire casual market.   But now the casual market is into smartphone/tablets and the core is still with MS/Sony.   So Nintendo has a very hard fight on either side and a relatively weak position on both.

I don't see developers from either side (outside of Japan) paying it much attention.    Unless it becomes a massive success, then it'll get some, like Wii did.  Which isn't saying much.

its only been out a week,it's a bit early for the "third party" syndrome, give us a little break from this i've been reading about it for years and years,

the WiiU is going to get most of these games i would think
