I'm really starting to regret being an early adopter for the Vita now. Don't get me know, I love some of the titles like Uncharted, Gravity Rush, MGS and LBP, but lately things are just getting depressing. I should have learned my lesson when I was an early adopter for the Amiga CD32 (and look what happened to that!).

I watched the last 10 minutes or so.. and I don't think gamespots review will up the metacritic grade much..

Just watched the livestream and they went across a game breaking bug on the first 50 seconds of the first mission. WTF?

Well that's a good sign. >_>

Not that I'm defending his criticism of the single-player campaign (I believe he said it was 42 minutes), because I haven't played it.

But the "other mode" is hostiles, a wave-based mode where you survive for as long as you can against increasingly bigger waves.  There are six maps for it.  That means he would have to have gotten himself killed in less than a minute then moved onto the next map.

Given how the modes go on indefinitely (or at least longer than 1 wave) and the whole point is to rack up the biggest score you can, that's certainly quite a feat.  It would be like saying zombies mode in Black Ops is 1 minute long because you walk straight up to the first zombie that spawns, let him kill you, then say you've "finished" the mode and the total play-time for it is 1 minute.

Yes

I have no experience of shooter games. I watched 10mins of that livestream.

The game looked much better than 1/5. I don't really understand. The game looked great for a handheld game, you could switch between weapons and kill bad guys, and the levels looked interesting enough. It certainly looked like it was done by a professional studio with millions of dollars. That says more of a 3/5 to me?

when I watched it they were doing one of the singleplayer missions.

I heard the AI shooting him long before he was walking around the corner. Apparently the singleplayer is 1 hour long, has no connecting storyline (so basically it's like the Spec Ops missions in MW2 and MW3 but even shorter) and it's incredibly hard to get into any multiplayer match.

How is that going to make the game above average (if we take the 2.5/5 = average standard) ?

That cant be right....how long are the console versions usually (asking cause I never played CoD lol)?

The shortest COD (for me and I played them all) was definitely Modern Warfare 2. Took me either 4 hours or 4:30 hours to complete on normal difficulty (the Veteran playthrough afterwards took a little bit longer). But still it had the Spec Ops mode which can be either played cooperatively or alone, adding another 2 hours to the time.

The campaign of a usual COD game is usually about 5 to 5:30 hours long.

I bet I could hack together a 3D shooter that would get at least 2/5 from Giant Bomb in less than a week. The art assets would be in MS Paint, I'd be using a Doom-clone tutorial as my engine, but given those limitations it would be polished and thoughtful.

What I'm trying to say is, they got the majority of what it takes to be a playable game. It looks good, it plays OK (you can shoot things and run around) and its flaws are mostly in comparison to the CoD you're used to, rather than objectively.

It's probably getting low marks because Sony is selling it as being comparable to the console experience which it clearly isn't. If they had sold it as way better than the ds versions it would probably got better scores.
