i truly find it hilarious that many of the people complaining about these reviews are the same people that bashed the crap out of people who complained when uncharted 3 got low scores

in fact i think i actually remember a thread being made about the complainers

yeah sure, if you have a problem with such a review you should have it for every console and not only for the one you own. there are obviously people who just complain because it's the 360 now or who say that about uncharted because it isn't on the 360 (or vice versa with ps3, wii owners)

I really don't pay much attention to meta anymore. From the fan side its either a 1 or a 10 and nothing in between.The critics all use a 3 point system 10 = good 9 .5 = mediocre 9 and lower = shit you won't care about next week. 

 

Then you have games like GTA IV getting a 98 (a great game, but not a 98 maybe a 90)

AssAssAssCreed3 at 85. No where near deserving that. Rushed terrible story, bad graphics, mediocre gameplay. i played with the tomahawk pretty much the entire game and used nothing else unless forced and never felt like i needed to. The game is closer to a 6 at best. 

 

And some of the games i loved and played the most this gen didn't end up with 90+ scores. and yet i'm still playing over and over.

Italics: Big difference: in football there's an objective measure of overall quality, how much they win. No such objective measure exists for games because fun is completely subjective.

Bold: First of all, he is NOT necessarily saying its the worst game he's ever played. If he's given, say, 35 games a 1/5, then Halo 4 could be 35th worst. (Not to mention he's certainly played far more games than he has rated) The review still has value as a decision helper because people who might find the flaws he pointed out offputting will be warned.

I very much doubt I will agree with him when I play Halo 4 for myself, and it's definitely not the most well written review out there, but he justifies his opinion enough to be more than just a troll in my view.

right, he didn't say it the worst, just that there is no game which deserves even a lower rating.

and there is no big difference between the football stuff or the game stuff because you don't have to see the teams winning to see which is better. it would be enough to watch their training to see which teams have a huge difference in quality. so maybe you can't watch the training of chelsea or aston villa to decide which team is better but you can decide it if you watch the training between chelsea and the small team playing in the lowest league.

yes you can say you like or donÄt like the story but in no way can't a reviewer who kows what he is doing not see that halo has very good controls, very good graphics, very good sound quality, very good multiplayer possibilities with spartan ops/multiplayer/co-op and more stuff which is simply good. and if you are not able to review the full package you have the wrong job.

i did hate killzone 2 but i believe i gave it still 76% because i know some stuff is simply good and even some stuff i don't like is nothing i can really say it's horrible, i just don't like it.

 

Underline: Except, potentially, other games he has rated 1/5.

Italics: You lost me as to how any of that applies to gaming.

Bold: Games aren't just the sum of their parts. There are games that check all the boxes and just aren't any fun or have no spark. The best graphics, controls, and all the content in the world can't redeem a game if at its core its not a positive experience. For this reviewer, the lack of the originality that defined the first Halo was enough to undermine whatever positive  traits it possesses.


In essence, I think he's saying that there comes a point where something can be judged subjectively in absolute terms. Halo 4 in absolute terms simply cannot be rated a 2/10 subjectively in any way shape or form for example, one might argue. Because it's simply outside the subjective possibilities and into the realms of extremely strange personal taste. Quality is quality, is what I'm saying.

Someone having such extreme taste should not be reviewing games as their work is not of any use to anyone normal.

The reviews system is broken regardless, its either bullshit like this or undeserved praise due to hype and popularity. No one seems able to review a game properly any more. There's a reason I stopped caring about reviews a long time ago, the only reason I open them in a tab sometimes is to read the comment section underneath to witness the hilarity.

Journey does suck. You play as a flying tissue for maybe an hour with no story. Now your going to tell me it is art. However if the game has no story and is an hour long if that then what is the point? Here is a case of Journey being overrated because it is different. Different =/= Good.

If you read the FAQ on the website he admits that he will never review a game objectively and will score it based on his own personal experience with the game. So it explains why his score is so retarded but doesn't really explain why it's counted on a site like Metacritic.

Then again you can see the breakdown of his reviews and an overwhelming majority of them are far below the average so you can safely assume he just wants hits and attention. I mean, in the Halo 4 review he complains about lack of changes yet gives Borderlands 2 a perfect score.
