Forums - Microsoft - Halo 4 gets a 20/100 on Meta, proves eview system is broken.

Heh, man, the guy just sounds bitter about everything. PS3, 360, doesn't much matter, he's just a ranting machine, it appears.

Guys like this really shouldn't be allowed to rate games, whether it's just his opinion or not. If you can't be at least reasonably civil when reviewing much of anything, then move onto something else where a shitty attitude doesn't matter. Like a toll booth worker. Nobody cares then.

Some people seem to underestimate the importance of metascores for a given company and it's employees.
It's become a standard in the industry to have the highest metascore as possible.

They're used in financial statements to sway investors and reassure shareholders.

Bonus are given to developers if games reach certain metascore thresholds.

It's also the legacy the game leaves behind summed up in a single number (for people who never played it).

Thats bad stuff in the bolded, honestly. That would lead people to offer more bribes than actually make devs want to try IMHO and it gives too much power to reviewers. Companies should stop paying that much attention to metacritic

This site has 93 reviews and its on Metacritic. gamrReview has over 1000 review and we are not counted.

why is that

I agree...

It really freaked me out to here metacritic mentioned in a Nintendo Direct...

Companies should let the quality of a game speak for itself instead of trying to impress anyone (investors or consumers) with review scores...

It makes me wonder where the creator's satisfaction and the consumer's satisfaction fit into the formula...

What sacrifices are developers making for the sake of reviews???

The fact that we can have so many discussions on review scores only shows how important they've become...

Have a nice day...

Wait, I actually agree with Oniyide? What next, water flowing uphill and cats chasing dogs? :p

Well bad stuff or not it still shows how important it has become in the industry.

So it's no wonder we hear stories of reviewers being bought to increase scores.

i would like to point out that a 1 star is not equivalant to 20/100

the only thing broken here is metacritic and Ive been saying that for a long while only to faced with opposition from starcraft and legend11 and others about metacritic being the only way to determine AAA games

god damn, metacritic. I think we can all agree on that! I use it once in a while just to get the gist of a game. BUt i dont let it really influence me, i usually just stick to 3 or 4 publications with reviewers i trust and go from there thats all you can do. There are a bunch of games that have high meta scores that i dont think should have them (Crysis2, MW3) and some games I would rate higher myself (ToGf for instance) thats all we can do.

Not saying your not right Boutros, i just dont like it.

I agree with this. One of the big problems with metacritic is they try to put all scores on the same scale.

Halo 4 now down to 87!!!!!

About this guy though...

"such as his harshly critical review of Deus Ex of which he said "I'd say it's only 90% bad"

He said that about the original Deus Ex, my god he wants locking up and the key throwing away. Deus Ex was one of the best games every made, possibly the best game every made imo. I respect anyone saying it's mediocre with an explanation, of course. But there is simply no way you could say that game was 90% bad. It was a pioneer in games design that basically ticked every box possible for quality.

I've got no problem with judging Halo 4 harshly, I'm sure if it were judged in the same vein as films are, then it would be an 85 average overall on Metacritic. The problem is that you can't just chuck in a 210 to as some kind of protest.
