Square Enix “currently evaluating” Dragon Quest VII 3DS for localization

October 31st, 2012 Posted in 3DS, News, Posted by Valay | No Comments »

Dragon Quest VII 3DS, as you would expect, hasn’t been confirmed for North America. Square Enix says that it is “evaluating” the remake for overseas territories at the moment.

A representative told Joystiq:

“We’re currently evaluating the title for the Western markets, but nothing has been determined. Please stay tuned for more information.”

I wonder if Square Enix would be willing to team up with Nintendo for publishing. Dragon Quest IX was published by Nintendo, so why not DQ VII as well?

Depends. Does Square-Enix want more money?

The fact that is being considered before its release is a good thing

If you're not going to do a retail release, just do an e-Shop release for the West, what's the big deal?

The translation should be mostly done as is anyway as this is a remake and they could just dump the PSOne translation I suppose.

Even at $39.99 a pop on the eShop, lets say 100,000 people between Europe and North America download it that's still likely an easy couple of million dollars in profit for Square-Enix. Why not? Nintendo probably being buddy-buddy with the DQ developers might even waive the licensing fee for the NA/Euro downloads.

That's the beauty of the eShop, there is really not much of an excuse to not translate games.

I never played DQ7, but I feel like I want to try the PS1 version before this remake comes out.

I wouldn't be surprised, I think that they also published DQVI for the DS as well.

I would love to see 3DS releases of DQ8 and the DQ1-3 anniversary collection ported to 3DS - as Europe missed the Wii one.
