Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft calls Xbox subscription service “pivotal” to its business, hints at inclusion with next-gen

So much hate for something that isn't even being forced. If you don't want to use this plan, you can still buy it the old fashion way. No harm no foul.

This is a rip off. I'm sorry but it's true. $450+ for an Xbox 360 is ridiculous.
Instead of decreasing the price, Microsoft is increasing it.

I pray to god that people are smart enough to do simple math.

All you need to do is provide games for your console and people will buy it. If you are concerned about the install base of your console, decrease the price! This is how this works. Don't fool people into thinking your console is cheaper than the others and trick them into paying monthly fees.

250GB Xbox 360 w/Kinect & 2 Years of Xbox LIVE Service =  $519
250GB Xbox 360 w/Kinect & 2 Years of Xbox LIVE Service on plan = $150 + $360 = $510

so what happens on the 3rd year?

Anyone who comes up with a lesser price on a plan opposed to the regular price is ignorant. Interest must be added on principle. Everyone knows Microsoft has issues with letting go of peoples credit card numbers, especially ones they cant surprise uauto renew, so it will be interesting how this plays out.

Last time I checked a 250gb 360 w/Kinect costs 349,-
And everytime you say something about Live costing $60 a year people declare you an idiot for paying that much...

This is just a natural progression of things, when people see how many Xbox next start to be sold because of this type of model,i bet u one of the other competitors will follow suit MARK MY WORDS and a lot of peeps on here will eat CROW.

Go to a store pay 3-4 hundred dollars for a console one time i am sure lot of people will do that but what about the ones who can,t?only 99 dollars down and monthly payments an untapped pool of consumers for consoles.

Here in my country u can take out a console on HIRE PURCHASE,pay 25,30 dollars a month adds maybe 3 or 4 hundred dollars more to the overall price, consoles are hella expensive here.Go Microsoft u trendsetter

I think the problem lies in the mentality of a lot of people and how educated on the subject matter they are, fortunately for coporations, the majority are not smart enough and don't want to just save a little but want instant gratification. Nobody is saying that it will fail mind you, all it takes is a certain % of people and the business will do just fine, but those % of people are the ones fucking the rest of the people over as usual, and that's the reality of the situation. I'm slowly starting to dislike the way MS is doing business. What really is stupid is that they are trying it out in countries that don't need it first and ignoring countries like yours where consoles are "hella" expensive. It would be a shitty ass trend if it becomes a trend, but at least I can retire from gaming that way and save lots of money overall, not that I think it will ever happen to PC gaming.

Microsoft has caused a lot of my friends to switch full time to PC.

I wonder how many of them were imaginary.

You dont understand the concept of interest do you?

For a low down payment, you have a lower price of entry in exchange for paying more long term. You spend more money yes, but its good for many families who cant pay 100% upfront.

Stop descriminating against the lower class people. This tactic was invented a LOOOONG time ago before MS did this.

I know how interest works. Are you calling me stupid?

Low income families shouldn't be buying  into a contract for a VIDEO GAME CONSOLE anyway. A cellphone is understandable since it is necessary. I'm not discriminating against anyone. This is a rip off FOR WHOEVER BUYS IT, middle, low or high class citizens.

How in the hell are there people in this thread not being moderated?

This thread is full of some utterly rediculous posts......

Hmm. You're right that is a good deal for the one with Kinect. I wonder if you have to renew your contract to keep using Xbox Live after that 2nd year.....

meh, I don't like subscription style of payment and really prefer to pay up front (like I can in Lovefilm, PS+) instead of monthly..

I can see the appeal of having to pay less initially and then being able to pay smaller chunks every month, when you have fresh money, but in my opinion that really screws with your perception of how much you really payed.

Hopefully normal payment methods will always be available for consoles.

I can see it -- XBox 720 next year that's even more powerful than the PS4.

$279.99 w/2-3 year subscription to a "new" XBox Live that will have a lot more content/cable TV partnerships.
