Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft calls Xbox subscription service “pivotal” to its business, hints at inclusion with next-gen

Honestly, I think that Microsoft and Sony are going to really ramp up the offerings on Xbox Live and PSN, respectively, in the following months in order to keep their current base from switching to a new console in the next generation, and I think Microsoft's comment is just a hint of that. I think someone who has invested in Xbox Live or PSN (i.e., services, extensive game libraries, etc.) are more likely to remain with those brands, even after the Wii U comes out, if Microsoft and Sony continue to refine those services, as well as hint that those services will remain intact with their next generation consoles.

Microsoft's grand plan with the xbox brand is absolutely pivotal and good for the customers.

I kept calling it out, nobody wanted to listen, lets all fuck ourselves into the oblivion.

And with this Microsoft has turned the videogame industry into the for profit cable industry.

Whereas Nintendo and Sony are not for profit charities.

There are some unreal posts in this thread.  If 2 of them aren't moderated then there is something amiss given my recent ridiculous ban.

LOL Name the two entertainment consoles, one of them focuses on games rather than turning themselves into a definitive cable box. Stop trying to act like Microsoft isn't turning into something else that what it should be. I never said Sony or Nintendo were charities either.

This is just a natural progression of things, when people see how many Xbox next start to be sold because of this type of model,i bet u one of the other competitors will follow suit MARK MY WORDS and a lot of peeps on here will eat CROW.

Go to a store pay 3-4 hundred dollars for a console one time i am sure lot of people will do that but what about the ones who can,t?only 99 dollars down and monthly payments an untapped pool of consumers for consoles.

Here in my country u can take out a console on HIRE PURCHASE,pay 25,30 dollars a month adds maybe 3 or 4 hundred dollars more to the overall price, consoles are hella expensive here.Go Microsoft u trendsetter

Don,t be Fanboys,Be Gamefans,Play games 4ever...GAME ON(msn)

People just wish it was the other console maker who had this idea, then it would have been too good to pass up.lol stop drinking whatever you are drinking it makes you look silly.

Thats retarded, Sony started the multimedia console trend in gaming in the living room. It's Microsoft who joined the gaming industry to follow Sony, but are going to end up overdoing it. Sony doesn't put very much importance on their non-gaming attributes outside of formats.

This is a rip off. I'm sorry but it's true. $450+ for an Xbox 360 is ridiculous.
Instead of decreasing the price, Microsoft is increasing it.

I pray to god that people are smart enough to do simple math.

All you need to do is provide games for your console and people will buy it. If you are concerned about the install base of your console, decrease the price! This is how this works. Don't fool people into thinking your console is cheaper than the others and trick them into paying monthly fees.

250GB Xbox 360 w/Kinect & 2 Years of Xbox LIVE Service =  $519
250GB Xbox 360 w/Kinect & 2 Years of Xbox LIVE Service on plan = $150 + $360 = $510

I think the problem lies in the mentality of a lot of people and how educated on the subject matter they are, fortunately for coporations, the majority are not smart enough and don't want to just save a little but want instant gratification. Nobody is saying that it will fail mind you, all it takes is a certain % of people and the business will do just fine, but those % of people are the ones fucking the rest of the people over as usual, and that's the reality of the situation. I'm slowly starting to dislike the way MS is doing business. What really is stupid is that they are trying it out in countries that don't need it first and ignoring countries like yours where consoles are "hella" expensive. It would be a shitty ass trend if it becomes a trend, but at least I can retire from gaming that way and save lots of money overall, not that I think it will ever happen to PC gaming.

Microsoft has caused a lot of my friends to switch full time to PC.
