Honestly, I think that Microsoft and Sony are going to really ramp up the offerings on Xbox Live and PSN, respectively, in the following months in order to keep their current base from switching to a new console in the next generation, and I think Microsoft's comment is just a hint of that. I think someone who has invested in Xbox Live or PSN (i.e., services, extensive game libraries, etc.) are more likely to remain with those brands, even after the Wii U comes out, if Microsoft and Sony continue to refine those services, as well as hint that those services will remain intact with their next generation consoles.
