Forums - Nintendo - Does New Super Mario Bros. 2 suck?

I actually think I prefer it a little bit to Super Mario 3D Land. It's just the NSMB presentation formula is getting stale, but the gameplay itself is still very fun and the game looks quite nice on the 3DS XL screen.

Let me ask this. Is it really so easy? Because I hate it when a game plays almost itself.

It isn't that easy.  It's just impossible to see the Game Over screen.  You'll die plenty of times, but you'll get lives much quicker.  The game is all about mastering the levels after you beat it and getting as many coins as possible in Coin Rush mode which actualy does make this Mario game completely different, but what do I know?

Oh, and that guy in the video is very annoying and not funny at all.

I was listening to the bombcast last night and the guys were saying it was shit compared to the Wii version. They said Super Mario 3d land was 100 times better.

It was a cheap cash in that was all.

It's not terrible; but the level design is VERY repetitive compared to past Mario games; there are also no real standout levels, every level you play will have about 6 or 7 others that are just like it. Also, the game is very easy.

Do I think New Super Mario Brothers U will be better? I expect it will be WAAAY better.

Any who, I haven't played it but I have heard others talk that it's just too safe a game. You get a lot of 1Ups and you have done it all before. I can only assume if you LOVE Mario, you will like it. If you're not a drooling sheep for the franchise, then you would probably find it mediocre at best. By videos I have seen, it doesn't look that appealing. Now if they would just make SUPER MARIO RPG 2 ALREADY maybe I could move on with my LIFE! (And not that paper Mario shit)

Super Mario RPG 2 came out about 12 years ago rebranded as Paper Mario. There is a sequel to that one coming out on 3DS - the Wii paper Mario is related in graphical style only in terms of how it plays, and is actually an interesting Platformer; far more interesting than the New Super Mario games in my opinion.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 doesn't suck, it's just that we see the same mechanics over again and that the freshness of the title is easily gone. That's why most people think it's bad because there was no surprise :/

It dosn't sucks... it is sooo ogood and fun and lovely

Switch!!!

its not bad, just predictable

Whats the point in failing? I dont get why people want to get punished. Seriously If I die and have to replay the level or start from the checkpoint isnt this punishment enough? I know I failed why do I have to see a GAME OVER SCRREN to know I failed? I dont get these people...

Seriously If I play a game and have to repeat somethning 100x times I stop playing it.  i stop playing a game when I have to see the same cutscene 10x times because i died and I have no way of skipping that cutscene etc.  Its more annoying to waste time than to not see a game over screen.

If their is nothing at stake then how exiting can a game be at all? I mean fi you have 500 lives and just can´t lose where is the fun after mastering it? It would be a bigger achivement to fail then to succeed.

Your persumption is there is nothing at stake, a game over screen is not the only thing you could loose, for example he got 500 lives, so he missed out on the star for max lives, if he used a white leaf he missed out on the shiny stars, if he didn't collect all of the secret coins and find all the hidden exits he missed out on completeing those stars as well. He plainly admits, the game is fun

despite his otherwise crazy ranting, so having played this game, and enjoying this game for what it was (i.e.; A Mario 2D Platformer) it was well worth the purchase, the amount of lives is irrelevant, how many coins can you get, how fast can you beat the level (compared to others), can you reach max lives, get all the star coins, the moon coins? can you never use the white leaf, find all the secret exits? I did, got to about 112,000 coins or so, was able to get one level where I had more than 1000 coins in that level, so I was happy and enjoyed the various challenges in that game. Also the tanooki suit is not the same as the racoon leaf, tale and ears or no, the tanooki let you float in the 3D platformer (and turn to stone later on) the leaf lets you fly, limited distances

So, does it suck? No. Not at all.
