Forums - Gaming - What is the bigger brand: XBOX or Playstation

With Microsoft making XBOX LIVE a brandname now moving it to Windows 8, Windows Phones, Tablets, IOS, possibly even Droid down the road XBOX LIVE has become a big brand and is about to get even bigger.  A long with that, anybody who sees XBOX automatically thinks Masterchief, Avatars, Kinect as all three of these have became big in the industy.  With the Nexbox on the way possibly in 2013 is it possible that it's bigger than the once dominate Playstation brand?

We take a look at Playstation and everything it has had from PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, and now the PSV.  The Playstation brand has had five consoles to date but with this generation has Playstation dropped off so far that Miscrosoft now has the bigger brand?  We know for a fact this isn't the case in Japan as XBOX is pretty much non-existent in Japan but in America XBOX has taken over.  So let me ask everybody your honest opinion, and please try to have a reasonable conversation and please set aside any fan tendacies that you may or may not have towards your desired company.  Is XBOX now a bigger brand than Playstation?

(But in all seriousness, I have no idea. I'd still say no for the time being, but I suppose it depends whereabouts in the world you are. Playstation has more spread, Xbox has America).

Xbox is still largely on an Anglo-American sensation. Given how much of the games' media is in the English-speaking world or oriented that way, you tend to get the impression that it's a little bigger than it is overall (though not by much, as the Anglo-American set serves as the largest market too)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Xbox brand might be more valuable at the moment, but the playstation brand is more well known.

Nearly 400million playstation consoles/handhelds have been sold, vs nearly 100million xbox consoles.

Only gamers would have the slightest idea that their pcs and phones have an xbox application, so just because it can be on all pcs doesn't mean all people with pcs know about it.

Playstation is still bigger in probably every region apart from the UK and NA... though living in the UK it seems PS is a much better known name... but in a few years? Who knows.

Still playstation globally.

US and UK, xbox is becoming the name that people often use to describe the activity of gaming.

So you're telling me that the two biggest territories for games are bigger for XBOX but Sony still globally?  XBOX's brand is on a rising right now while sony is ona downfall.

I get what you're saying and all about that but PS3 is still down to the 360, (Not bringing that in for an argument) but maybe you can give a better reason than that is all I'm saying.  Like what makes Playstation a bigger brand globally?

That is in the course of a much longer period of time, I'm talking about currently.  And if Windows 8 comes pre-loaded with XBOX Live like Windows Phones you better believe more people will get to know it because Windows is by far bigger than anything else in the industry.

Live on PC makes zero sense to me.  I had to actually make a Live account just to be able to play GTA 4 on Steam single player.    It blew my mind why I had to do such a trivial thing for a game not even published by Microsoft.  I suppose this was mandatory for achievements in game?  If anything I see more of a revolt that will happen if they keep this up.  To me Live on PC means absolutely nothing.

PlayStation is well known over the World.

It's not windows live.  It'll be XBOX LIVE.  Two different applications,  but I get your point as I use Steam on PC.  However, if it's pre-loaded with Windows 8 which I'm almost positive it is it'll just bring more recognition to Avatars and XBL. Remember, avatars are with the silver account on XBL so this won't be confined. This will be capturing the casual audience more than anything in my opinion rather than the hardcore as I'm assuming they're not going to be releasing games like Halo 4 on PC's XBL.  This shouldn't be interfering with Steam in anyway
