Forums - Nintendo - Why doesn't Nintendo redesign their home consoles?

man you really try hard to let the other companies always look bad... are you married with nintendo or something? i mean, you already posted in this thread but then you thought you "have to" pull that out as additional post or what?

other companies don't do it as bad practice, other companies do it because the technology they build in the consoles at release just can't be in such a small case and only with improving technology they can build a smaller console after some time. or to reduce own costs which is only just normal.

nintendo doesn't have to do it as long as their consoles have a decent size from beginning.

ok now you could argue sony did that with as example the ps2 without need but many customers were pretty happy to get a much smaller console so why not?

or they realize the console isn't a beauty after some time and release a new design, why not? why should a company have the same design for 8 years or something if they know custumers would like another design more? just look at he first 360 and the redesign now, microsoft coul still release the old design just with better quality as they had the first years but this design now is much more appealing for most, it was good to change the design.

It depends on what you consider "bad", for a business perspective it makes a lot of sense, but as a consumer redesigns sucks imo. Luckily for us Ninty rarely redesigns their home consoles, which is something I really appreciate.

Nintendo and PC gamer

Because the appearance of the box is irrelevant (unless the shape of the box helps contribute to hardware failure a la the original 360). The important thing is the games the box plays.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

because its useless. My home consoles are next to my TV and I never touch it other than to change the CD. I dont care if its huge or small aslong as it works and its not to hugly next to my TV. Handheld on the other hand, you hold them and move them around with you so other ppl see you holding it so you want the coolest system possible.

I'm not going to get into a moral or ethical thing here, but in general redesigns are less important for home consoles. When you're dealing with a portable console that you're going to be carrying with you and has its inputs AND display built right in, there is a lot more need and room for customization. Portable devices are also more likely to break/get lost, and people will be replacing them more often.

Also, this may sound like fanboyism, but Nintendo's console designs have generally been better from an aesthetic/durability standpoint. We're all well aware of the issues with X-Box's launch models, and the original PS3 was incredibly bulky. By comparison the Wii was small and didn't have many technical issues. So, what could Nintendo really do with the Wii to change things up?

Yet, they release plenty of itterations for their handhelds.

No, the Wii without GC support doesn't count as a proper redesign ike ps2 to ps2 slim...

A lot of it has to do with it simply not being necessary.  Redesigns are primarily driven by trying to cut production costs, shrink the size, and lower power consumption.  Nintendo home consoles are always small, compact, consume less power than rivals, and therefore a redesign is unnecessary.

False, new redesigned models cause a peak in sales that would be absent without it. Usually new models are launched alongside a flagship title.

No console redesigns. Only redesigned controllers.
