I'm not going to get into a moral or ethical thing here, but in general redesigns are less important for home consoles. When you're dealing with a portable console that you're going to be carrying with you and has its inputs AND display built right in, there is a lot more need and room for customization. Portable devices are also more likely to break/get lost, and people will be replacing them more often.
Also, this may sound like fanboyism, but Nintendo's console designs have generally been better from an aesthetic/durability standpoint. We're all well aware of the issues with X-Box's launch models, and the original PS3 was incredibly bulky. By comparison the Wii was small and didn't have many technical issues. So, what could Nintendo really do with the Wii to change things up?
