I don't believe Sony is only 40th when MS is at number 5.

I would say their brand strength is about equal but Sony slightly stronger.

MS is way more valuable then Sony.  Plus more people use MS products on a daily basis compared to products made by Sony.

But this list is not a market cap list. MS makes morey money than Sony and more people use MS products but far more people love Sony all over the world.

I highly doubt that.  If people really loved Sony that much it wouldn't loose billions of dollars each year.

Samsung has a wider array of products then Sony thus its classified as a technology brand.

ms is not much beloved but still, put the name microsoft on a decent software and it will be a success.

What has Apple done in the last year that has caused their brand power to skyrocket like that? The iPhone 4 and iPad 3? I would have thought it would rise enormously with the original iPhone and then remain fairly constant, or slowly increase, but it more than doubled and rose six places.

I disagree.

Sony doesn't even approach 90% marketshare in any industry, and Microsoft does it with one of the most lucrative industries in the world - desktop operating systems. If we compared their brand strength in gaming or hardware, I would agree with you, but Microsoft is by market cap one of the largest companies in the world, and has hundreds of millions if not billions of customers.

On 2nd thought, your right.

It doesn't matter if consumers hate a brand if they still purchase products from it.

I'm happy to see coca cola in 1st place. soda is not the only thing they sell.

What else do they sell?

The coca cola company has other stuff, but don't sell under the coca cola brand, thus being irrelevant (I'd think)

With windows 8 coming I see Microsoft moving up again. Id like to see Apple go down a bit though. Not an apple fan at all. Hopefully Sony can get things turned around, and I'd like to see nintendo reach the top 50 again.

lmao that's what you got out of all this haha  Have you ever heard of a little program called Windows?  Most likely you are using it right now unless you are using an apple product or linux?  Microsoft has more than just games
