I don't see it being a problem since you can play Wii games on WiiU

Wipeout 3

New Super Mario Bros. U

Nintendo Land

Sing Party

ESPN Sports Connection

Just Dance 4

Rabbids Land

Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2013

Scribblenauts Unlimited

Game Party Champions

And also, there seems to be 1 or 2 casual games available for Wii U.  Yeah, I'm just not sure I can agree with the title of this thread.  There will be just as much casual flavor on the Wii U.  However, if your colleague can only afford a Wii then it's a pretty easy decision.

With titles like New Super Mario Bros. U and Just Dance 4, I don't think it lacks casual games. I'm sure the little girl would love to play these and other games.

We need moar Zelda, now!

We need moar Unchartedzz!

We need less DLCs.

I believe the Wii U will have plenty of more accessible games in the coming years, especially focusing around the use of the tablet controller. I do believe it will lack many of the casual motion control games due to 1) The novelty of the Wii's motion controller back when it released caused a plethora of these titles and 2) Wii U's main controller doesn't focus on motions/swinging/etc.

I think it comes down to the types of casual games she'd be interested in: motion or tablet.

Also, do remember that the Wii U is completely backwards compatible, so while it may cost him more upfront, down the road he could end up saving money if his daughter ever wants one. Plus she'll have more game options with a console that can play 2 consoles' worth of games! =)

I would tell him to get a Wii since it sounds like the asking price for Wii U might be a little steep. Wii has a library of games that would appeal to the guy's kid, more so than the WIi U at the moment and the games are cheaper.

@wfz, oni. Exactly. I told him to start with a Wii and get lots of fun 2nd hand games, and wait till the WiiU gets more casual games exclusive to it, and upgrade in like 1 or 2 years.

The Wii didn't have this competition from its predecessor for this audience imho.

@amp. He wants to get her a gift for her birthday, and she's been nagging him for a Wii.

Also, I forgot to mention all the great games he could enjoy himself, like AC3 and ZombiU. Then again, he owns a PS3.

Depends how old his daughter is, my daughter is 3 and i wouldnt buy her a WiiU as i feel its an expensive piece of kit for a kid to be messing about with. With the Wii being cheaper it would be a no brainer for me as you can also pick up a majority of games dirt cheap, and the Wiimotes are pretty robust if she deciedes to peg one across the living room (i wouldnt want her to do that to my gamepad). In fact when i get my WiiU my daughter will inherit my Wii, on the condition that Daddy can still use it for Gamecube.

I dont think Wiiu will suffer for lack of casual games because at the moment Nintendo are focusing on drawing in the "hardcore" gamers, i believe that casual stuff will appear later on down the line. I also think that Nintendo should still be pushing its motion controls to keep the casuals interested.

One minute New Super U is casual and can't bring the core over, next minute it's too core and doesn't appeal to casuals. Can we please make up our collective mind?

Wii U too hardcore comfirmed. Doom inc.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

I'm not sure what the problem is. It is possible to be facing two issues at once you're aware of that, or is that too complex?

Wii U is getting 23 games at launch. Feel free to divide them into "Casual" and "Core" games and we'll see how many there are of each.
