Forums - Gaming - Less And Less Single Player Only Games.... (I am leaving this site behind me soon)

Are single player games dieing???

Yes: very fast 32 27.12%

Yes: very slowly 34 28.81%

No 49 41.53%

Who needs singleplayer... 2 1.69%

Total:117

Ive never understood the point of people complaining about single player games adding multiplayer. As long as the single player is solid thats all that matters.

And metacritic fully supports the fact that the majority of the time games adding multi in no way hurt the single player experience. The whole thought process that adding multiplayer hurts single player is not supported by eith review scores or sales

It's not that single-players gamers are "dying" it's just developers trying to give the customer "more bang for their buck" as long as the game doesn't compromise the single-player then it shouldn't really matter. some of the games you mention have a much longer single campaign than their predecessors(God of War: Ascension, Resident Evil 6, Dead Space 3)

unless it's a RPG, it doesn't hurt to give people a little more incentive to buy their product

P.S even if you leave you will turn into a lurker...you know you will

If the singleplayer is still good, which it usually is, then who cares?

They are out...you're just to sober to realize it.

I don't play multiplayer because I don't like having to rely on gamers who aren't up to my skill level.

That's only a problem with a small portion of multiplayer gamse.

You're not as good as me. :P

Single player games aren't dying. Some do get tainted by multiplayer, or get lazy with the campaign since co-op should fill in the fun.
For example Gears of War, the parts where there are 2 obvious paths next to each other completely broke the immersion and turned it into an amusement park ride. Or a game like Left4Dead or Dead Island which is not suited very well for single player.
It grates the other way around as well, shoehorning co-op into a single player campaign. For example DKCR did not work well in co-op.

Either make 2 separate tailor made campaigns or be clear about it. 1 player, 2 player or 2-4 player. Not 1-4 player with half-baked single player experience or awkward multiplayer.
