Forums - Nintendo - Why Monster Hunter is on Nintendo? Developer tells you.

The DS/3DS are the market leading platforms for Japan.

Monster Hunter is the biggest (second biggest?) franchise in Japan.

The 3DS can run adequete enough graphics to now handle Monster Hunter whereas the DS could not.

Why shouldn't Monster Hunter 3/4 be on 3DS is a better question. PSP was lucky to have it for a few years only because the DS couldn't run the engine.

there is a monster hunter clone on the NDS, can't recall the name.

And it is quite presentable given the limitations. There could be an NDS monster hunter, bu not using the same engine as the PSP, of course.

I'm confused, they said that Monster Hunter needs to be multi platform, but Monster Hunter 4 being an exclusive to the 3DS is best. That's a contradiction and made the statement "Needs to be multi platform" false.

No it isn't: clearly, in context, he means one hardware *vendor*, not one platform, i.e. PSP or 3DS or U or whatever.

But that was his answer for Monster Hunter 4 not being in the Wii U.  Hence the contradiction.

I believe Monster Hunter requires a subscription in Japan. As such, I wouldn't be surprised to find out Nintendo offered Capcom a better deal than the money starving Sony in terms of the online fee.

It won't have subscriptions on Wii U as far as we can tell and portable games, the real meat of the franchise, never had them.

But maybe it'll change in MH4... being the first portable with online that is

Their reasoning for both is incredibly poor, though I imagine it will eventually come to Wii U.

Are you thinking of Kaijuu Busters?

I was pretty impressed by what Namco managed to get out of the DS (imagine a Diablos in that video).  Yes, a degraded version of MonHun was certainly feasible, but I'm not sure it would have appealed to the series' fan base.  It would have been more like Monster Hunter i or Dynamic Hunting.  I imagine that Capcom must ahve made some attempt to build a MonHun for DS and then rejected it.

Because Sony fans wouldn't put up with no online for the game and expect a proper job to be done.

Really... tha's why Capcom chose to put the game on 3DS?

Try adding something of more substance to the discussion as opposed to "we Sony fans have higher standards".  The Sony fans did more than put up with no online on the PSP entries.

This just makes you sound bitter.

Why? easy
Capcom looked at the Hw charts and decided to support the most successful co. out there

And lost a lot of sales
Cause on a Sony Platform it would sell a lot more and that is a fact.Nintendo could have 219837238472983 Million units sold of the Wii - It would never reach the numbers of the amount the user base of the PS3 for example would buy.

Bitter because I have a 3DS and can play the game if I want, but don't have a Vita so if went to Vita I'd never play it?  Makes perfect sense.

If you cannot make an argument without brining the insinuation someone is a fanboy into it maybe don't post, because it is the weakest of arguments and ends up as crap.

Don't try to spin this on me, you made that comment implying that Sony fans have higher standards, which makes no sense given how the PSP entries sold WITHOUT online added.

Just man up, admit it, and own up to it.  And stop deflecting.

And nobody cares that you have a 3DS.

People who want to see your basis for an argument fail probably care I have a 3DS and not a VIta, because it kills it.  Talking previous gen consoles as excuses is a weak argument too, SFII on SNES never had online, I guess would be fine if SFIV never had online right?   New gens bring new, higher expectations. the WiiU version has online.

Trying to put a generational restriction on the discussion, making the PSP off-limits, just seems like a very lame way of attempting to not undermine your original comment - especially since both the PSP and the DS were capable online systems.

The point is, Sony fans are no more demanding then Nintendo fans - like you're trying to say.  And not including online in a handheld Monster Hunter game when there never has been online in a handheld Monster Hunter game does not mean a "proper job" wasn't done all of a sudden now that the game is on 3DS and not PSP.  Your double standard is glaringly obvious.

Also, there will be online in MH4 so there you go.
