Forums - Nintendo - How Nintendo Is Taking Over The Japanese Video Game Market One IP At A Time ~ :)

Software competition is what's good for gamers, not hardware competition.

Hardware competition only drives up the prices of everything, because companies engage in an arms race. Software competition is what leads to better games without raising the prices.

I too think Nintendo is really trying this time with 3rd parties. 3DS seems like Nintendo is convincing them to release games for 3DS - exclusives aswell - and Wii U is starting to show the same thing.
With one year alone in the market this could really help change the market`s perception of Nintendo consoles.

Yeeeeah... I wonder what will happen when the Vita gets a pricedrop+games, and it will RAPE the WiiU on a weekly basis in Japan. Nintendo secured themselves exclusives, but unfortunately for them Bayonetta is the biggest, which is a pretty small IP on its own.

Do tell us where that price drop and supply of games is coming from. Besides the Final Fantasy remake and the unknown quantity that is Soul Sacrifice, what does the Vita have going for it? Even now, the Vita is not that much better off than the Wii, a system that's been dying for nearly two years. What chance will it stand against the Wii U, with its 2D Mario and its Dragon Quest and its actually existing Monster Hunter?

Yeah, if we look at the 5 biggest Japanese franchises (in no order):

Pokemon
Super Mario
Dragon Quest
Monster Hunter
Final Fantasy

Well, two of them are Nintendo first party titles and another two of them only appear on Nintendo consoles right now. Final Fantasy is more on the Sony side but it's a lot smaller these days than the other four franchises listed. Nintendo's ambitions are pretty obvious, they had no success getting mainline Final Fantasy games so far and in the west they still couldn't get Rockstar to publish mainline GTA games on their consoles but the direction is clear.

They're really focusing the japanese market, and that's why I'm so excited about their future right now.

Japan needs a resurgence... and not a western adaptation.

wow I can't believe I only just noticed it. All those exclusive games and IPs all add up... Nintendo wants to dominate Japan confirmed!

Not sure how Bayonetta 2 is considered a factor at all for the Japanese market, but it's a game that will the vast majority of its sales in the West.

Dragon Quest? Monster Hunter?

Same could happen with WiiU, getiing a price drop + games and then rape everything.

Unfortunately for you, we are talking about facts, reality, not wishful thinking/hypothetical
