Forums - Nintendo - Wii U Chat confirmed... next Wii U Watch

Remember those system package boxarts we saw last week?

The fine people at Nintendo-Nation have done just that. They've zoomed in the side specs and found a few tidbits. They looked at what's underneath the "Connect" header and deciphered from the zoomed in jumble of pixels:

  • Make and share new Mii characters
  • Easily interact with friends, family and people around the world with Miiverse
  • Download add-on content, full games, classic games and applications from Nintendo eShop (all contents sold separately).
  • Communicate with other Wii U owners in real time with Wii U Chat

Wii U Chat? Is that WiiU's IM or the video call app we saw at E3? I think Wii U Watch is better suited for the video, with a Wii Watch U mode to act as baby-cam.

cool

I love the blue package.
Maybe Wii U chat is the same as the video about the Octag123.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

I want OS level voice chat, thats really all I care about. I need this for Monster Hunter, Wii speak was so terrible that I relocated my PC downstairs to the living room just to have skype running on it while playing Monster Hunter. The last 5 months I could use my PS Vita for voice chat but something like this should absolutely be standard.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

I want to be able to add a stranger I meet online and be able to talk and videochat with her right away like normal 21st century internet.

That's my main concern. If such a thing is not available, the whole Nintendo Network will he bottlenecked by this.

Lol, awesomely presented (and located) news.

I don't expect to use this feature a lot- if at all though. Nintendo games are usually best enjoyed alone or on local multiplayer. And even with exceptions such as Mario Kart, F-Zero and Super Smash Brothers where online multiplayer would be a great part of the experience, I really don't see the need to actually talk to my opponents in any of those games.

As for communication outside of the games... people still have phones and computers, don't they?

What about 3rd party titles?  Call of Duty is coming to the Wii U, so I would say it would be used a lot there.

Well, I expect to buy most (if not all) third party titles for my Xbox like I did this generation. But yeah, if I ever use this feature that will be it (though definitely not in CoD, specifically :P ).
