So, I was on youtube today getting all hyped up for the next mafia game, which sports the most epic Castlevania theme, and I saw this comment posted by one of the guys there:

"All my friends playing call of duty F*** THEM I HAVE CASTLEVANIA!" (Censored for vgchartz)

So I was wondering guys, is there a divide between classic gaming and modern gaming, one where some people are either in one, either in the other, or in both, and where do you find yourselves?

I know I consider myself a classic gamer with the ability to enjoy some new games like COD, with a taste of the more realistic visuals that modern consoles offer. But many times I feel like nothing compares to the timelessness of the classic experiences. So I am more a fan of the classics, but enjoy and am a fan of the modern games too. How do you feel on this topic, where do you place yourself?

OMG!!! I'm the guy who made that comment!!?!!!!!11!!1

EDIT: No-one took the bazinga-bate...

I play modern games most of the time, but I will always reserve some space for classic gaming. NES, N64, Game Boy/Color/Advance all get their fair share.

I must say though that absolutely nothing, even after all these years, beats playing Mario Kart 64 on multiplayer. It is still the very best available gaming experience in my opinion.

Nostalgia is probably to blame for that, but why care :P

I play both. Have 30 VC games as well as having purchased way more than that on wii/ps3.

I'm not sure how Castlevania could relate in anyway to CoD.

I consider myself a neo-retro gamer. One who enjoys playing throwbacks, re-releases, and full-blown remakes, whether or not I played the original in some capacity. Also, despite being one of the younger VGChartz members, I've had the good fortune of having owned every (worthwhile) Nintendo home console in order. I had a NES before I had a SNES, a SNES before N64 and so on. My parents have raised me well in terms of appreciating classic (Nintendo) games from every (Nintendo) generation.
That being said, I'd take the modern handheld Castlevania's over the original NES games. But I also prefel Super Mario Bros. 3 to the more recent 2D Mario games (may change with NSMBU though). So my generational preferences are largely on a case-to-case basis.

I'd like you to elaborate, because I thought OP was clear.

I mostly play new games, but I like to go play old games, when nothing good is out, which is January to July for me most of the time. So yeah I love them both. Also I can't stand CoD, it's so boring!

Honestly I feel sorry for the new generation of gamers. They have no idea what good level design is. Hell I was with my little cousin, he was playing Call of Duty online with his friend. He put in Batman for me to play for him, that's right he has no idea what to do in the game. Because the game isn't in a straight line and he has no attention span so he didn't bother to read/listen to the part where it says that you're getting closer to your target when the number gets smaller. He's never finished any of his games cause he doesn't know what to do in them despite a really long tutorial. I tried to play Street Fighter with him but he refuses to play it cause it involves strategy. Instant gratification has ruined gaming.

I'm both, but I gotta say... nostalgia just ain't what it used to be these days.

As much as I love busting out my NES, SNES, hell even my Atari 7800 every once in awhile, there are only a handful of games that I will actually play for more than like 10-15 minutes before I'm like "well, I've had enough of that for another 5 years or so."

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
