You can't really get more "non kiddy" than Bayonetta as far as Japanese deves are concerned.
Really smart of Nintendo. Especially coming this early in the console's life cycle.

well according to vgchartz it has 1.88m an that is pretty low considering it's a multiplatform game, it´s true that for some games it's a great success to sell even 1M but that doesn´t count if the game had a budget of 5M and i guess that was the case and that is why SEGA wasn't interested in making a sequel, those facts made me say that the game wasn't really a success |
But it didn't sell 1M, it sold nearly 2M. Like I said before, a lot of games do worse even as multiplat and still get sequels.
I don't know if Sega was flatout refusing to publish a sequel. But I do think NIntendo made a better offer than Sega could.
"Bayonetta is a brand that we want to see become stronger, reaching the hands of more and more gamers, so we have continued to consult with SEGA, the previous game’s publisher, on how we can make sure this takes place. Our answer was a new partnership with Nintendo."

Not to (intentionaly) add salt to the wound, but I hope nitnendo continues with this practice with other games that no one else wants to save or keep afloat.

I never understand this mentality. This is like the same shit people say about MoHun. You are a fan of the game and what does loyalty have anything to do with what console it is on? The loyalty from Platinum Games to their fans is to make the sequel of the beloved game. If you want to play the sequel, buy the system the game is on to play it. period. Also, this is a game on a next gen system and there is no guarantee people who enjoyed the first game on PS360 would buy the PS4 or 720. Developing the sequel on Wii U is as good as developing it on PS4 or 720.

Kind of a different story. The PSP had plenty of Monster Hunter games. If Capcom is really motivated to bring the series to superior hardware the 3DS is the obvious choice because the Vita is a failure.
I think the game would sell best on PS360. But Platinum Games went with Wii U because they want Nintendo's support. We'll just have to wait and see what happens I suppose.

Looking at it for an alternate point of view, if one of my favourite franchises suddenly went from being multi-platform to exclusive on a console I didn't own I would be a bit annoyed. My top 5 franchises are in a position where it is unlikely to ever happen to them. I would be left in an awkward situation if it did, as it takes more than just one game for me to commit to a console.
As for the actually game, I tried the demo for the first game on the Xbox 360 and it just didn't appeal to me. watching all the rants as a neutral is fairly amusing.
(Not offical. Fan made)
So good... :)

jesus man when are you going to get it? it doesn't matter if it sold 2 or 3 or 4M if it still didn't manage to cover the costs of producing it. do you think that it's a success for a game like grand theft auto to sell 1M? it´s just plain math or do you also need a lecture on that?

I'll take that math lecture, I'm curious where you're coming up with any numbers for what the game needed to sell since I'd wager that you're making these claims based off the outcome and not hard math. But just because Sega couldn't afford to make another Bayonetta doesn't necessarily mean that it lost them money, they're in bad straight in general lately so it doesn't really matter how well Bayonetta did if Sega can't afford the initial investment right now. The fact that Bayonetta 2 was not sheduled for a sequel does not necessitate that it was unprofitable, could just mean it wasn't profitable enough for Sega to take the risk with their current financial situation. The fact that Sega and Platinum Games were still in talks about how to "grow the brand" as PG has stated makes me think that it wasn't a huge financial failure or they wouldn't have been talking about it at all.

hehe no dude the lecture was just about basic math, i said as a joke. And as i said before i'm only guessin in why there wasn´t gonna be a sequel, i only take the "didn't cover the budget" as a MAYBE, because the most obvious thing is that if the game was profitable then sega would not have even stopped to think about doing a sequel

Yeah normally I'd agree but Sega is having lots of issues in general so I think it's abnormally plausible that they might not be willing to make the investment even if the first game got profit. That said, it's tough to prove either direction so it's not like Puggsly is on better footing than you, your scenario is more likely than his or probably even mine, but it's not 100% certain and there are plausible alternative explainations, just thought I'd throw that out there.
