Forums - Sales Discussion - Prediction: Wii U will sell under 40 million units

If Nintendo manages to only sell 40mill wii u's they probably will still make more of a profit that Sony/Microsoft lol

Around the Network

Lol, this thread should be renamed " epic fail thread"

Nintendo will be very lucky if they reach 30M ( considering Wii U is in worse position than Gamecube was and GC sold only 22M... )

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

This thread was a good laugh. Have to love the reactions. No one saw t)is coming but op. Fun fact, it needs to sell on average 175k for 4 years to be wrong. Or140k in 5.

Im confused? Im not wrong about any of this so far?

Going by the numbers Wii U had a very strong launch which reflects my earlier opinion. The system started posting dreadful numbers after the holidays but its launch was excellent.

I figured Nintendo wouldve handled their console better and been in a stronger spot by now sure but last I checked Wii U still may very well do 40 million

@bold:  This is what many of us expected.  We never considered that Nintendo would decide to take a seven month vacation from releasing games after launch.

However, we don't know what kind of software could arrive from Nintendo in the future.  Remember, it took the original DS about a year and a half before we got Brain Age in the west which really pushed its mass market appeal.  There's still a glimmer of hope that Nintendo could produce some magical games that prove the Gamepad as a game changer.  Combined with the rest of its library and, of course, price drops, WiiU could still sell past 40m units.

One thing's for sure:  WiiU's sales and game reveals next year against the PS4/XB1 will be very telling of its future.

Whats wierd are the people already discounting this.

1. The console is still massively over priced for Nintendo hardware

2. It has a pretty awful software lineup with no stand outs like a new Zelda, Mario Kart, or Smash Bros

3. Nintendo has dobe an awful job marketing their system.

People were predicting huge doom during 3ds furst year as well. Its still way to early to discount any potential sales for Wii U.

And for those of you personally invested in this stop being wierdos. Its interesting talking numbers, hardware and trends but theres so much personal FUD in this forum its pathetic

1. It's only $50 more than the Wii was at launch.

2. Those games will bring decent bumps, especially in Japan, but nothing that will last very long.  2D Marios have always been Nintendo's bestsellers, but they already have one out for it.  I'm guessing it's going to be a little while before they have another one.

3. They have.  But, when are they going to change?  It's been a year from launch and they don't seem too interested in changing things.

3DS was able to turn around.  However, Nintendo always does better in the handheld market than they do in the home console one.  So far, it seems the Wii was a fluke, looking at their past performances.  And the problems with the 3DS were pretty much nipped in the bud after a few months, not years.  Even with the turn around, it's unlikely the 3DS will sell as well as the DS, not that it needs to.

It's too late, they had their chance, they didnt take it, nowmicrosoft and sony released their next gen, and sadly even the xbox one will sell better. ( and please, stop with that insanity of comparing Wii U to 3DS, the situation is absolutely not the same :

-3DS had good third party support before the Vita release, the exact opposite of the Wii U.

- 3ds is not a home console

- none nintendo home console sold well without first party support, even with mario kart, SSB,...)

So yes , 30M is the goal to reach now, what nintendo can hope ( and it will be very difficult if they cant even make 2M in one year, there will be a second price drop like the gamecube, for sure )

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

Epic bump lol.

Oh god this thread is brutal.

Is MBP the new BHR?

Lol! So many emotional reactions, from both Nintendo fans and fierce haters.

if WiiU manages to sell 30 million worldwide, Nintendo will be just fine. I believe it will pull similar numbers to the N64 (somewhat around 35 million)

It doesn´t seem much, but any of the 7th-gen machines will match the sales of the previous generation. Casuals won´t bloat the market this time.
