What exactly did the user do wrong with this post ? How is that intended to piss off the PS fans on this site ? Even if that guy did have a history for trolling PS base it seems a bit paranoid to moderate based off of implied port begging.

No offence to the mods of course ...

No problem. Allow me to explain.

The user has a long history of posting such comments which don't add anything but bait other users. Also, he is well known for his sly bashing of the PS4 and support of the Xbox One.

Combining this information, I asked "What is the user trying to achieve with this post?", and the answer I came to was "to antagonize other PS users". Other users could easily see that comment and start further off-topic discussion about why "it's only worth playing on the Xbox One", which is what it seems like to me. So I thought with his history it'd be best to step in early before things got out of hand.

In summary, a combination of his history, the off-topic nature of his post and also his aims with it made it enough for me to moderate.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Thanks for the explanation ...

I am reporting the moderator Viper1 for practicing reverse bias and allowing a thread to degrade into petty fights.

Thread: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=183412&page=1

Moderated post: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6328654

A preceding post that was deemed okay: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6327840

The above post was edited by Viper1 for quote trees, so there is clear evidence that he has seen it. When you look at the post that got moderated, it's rather harmless and it definitely is in comparison to selected quotes from the post that was edited for the purpose of quote trimming.

You know, screw it. I don't have to do the work to pick borderline and rule-breaking quotes from that post, because you can just look at the link and confirm for yourself that it is the biggest blunder any of the mods has committed in the month of May. The most disappointing part is that Viper1 agreed with me when I brought up that the mod team should pay more attention to context and apply common sense rulings instead of strictly enforcing rules (thread about legislating the use of the word "troll").

Pay more attention to ongoing discussions.

EDIT: Since the time of me posting here, the moderated user has confirmed that he got warned for the size of his quote tree (rare to see people getting moderated for that). This changes the context of my complaint a bit, but overall it's still valid. Especially because Viper1 issued warnings for both, respecting other users and keeping quote trees under control, in the thread.

Yeah, the sheer vitriol in Hunter_Alien's posts (don't forget this one: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6324710) was definitely out of line and should have been moderated ASAP. Honestly, the time and effort put in to take shot after shot was pretty shocking, and that sort of posting is exactly the sort that we don't want in these forums.

Obviously I cannot speak for Viper, but for the mod team, we do apologize for not taking quicker action, and we'll be sure to get the situation sorted out.

If a post requires fairly substantial interpretation and/or explanation to determine if its flamebait, then it should not be moderated.

Start linking people to the reasons people are banned. If you all cant put it in the description of your moderation then put the link on the user's wall.

Not really going to disagree with FishTacos here either. People are leaving this site and it shows. Im pretty sure ioi would like you guys to keep people here instead of pushing them away.

Leaving? Numbers are up jaywood. Looks at the forum index.

Seems active members are down rather than up.  We can just look t a few weeks ago and see that a pretty decent size of the community just up and left.  I dont know the full story behind it but what i do know is it had something to do with the mods.  Mostly ConeG and Carl.  ConeG isnt even fit to be mod and Carl......i havent decided yet.  Starcraft and Viper has done pretty good so far though imo

And you can say that i have a problem with mods which isnt true.  I think Kresnik, Smeags, Kantor, Axumblade, and some others im forgetting atm has done a good job overall throughout the years.

Name names and define "active members".  Saying "a pretty decent size of the community" isnt really worth anything without any context.

Really the only difference now (that Ive noticed anyway) is that the PS Nation thread isnt as busy as it used to be, which honestly is countered by the fact that the XBO Nation thread gets busier every single day. As spurge said, traffic hasnt dropped at all and the forums are as busy as they have been all Year. With E3 coming up, things are actually improving.

Would you care to elaborate on your point? I've thus far taken a lot of moderations (you need only check the monthly ban report to see that) and have had relatively few complaints.

Saying you disagree with the style of my moderation is one thing, but to say that I'm not even fit to be a moderator is a whole different matter. So I ask; what exactly have Carl and I done wrong to be deemed "unfit to moderate" in your opinion?

As for your other point, I agree the ban link thing needs to be fixed. I do try to post on people's walls when I remember, but for every moderator to do that with every ban when it was automatic for so long, it'll take a bit of time to get used to.

It's really no big deal. You see the post number the user was banned for, so just open a random post and replace the post number with the one you like to see in the URL.

OR

click on the link and then add "vgchartz." before the "com" in the URL.

I know that some left, but that doesn't necessarily mean that this has a serious impact on the whole user activity. Especially when some of these members are used to longer bans. I've seen plenty of new users in the past few weeks and I know that because I'm doing a lot of checks on alternate accounts.

Also even if the activity was slowing down, there is no proof that this is due to us. May is one of the slowest months in gaming and it's obvious that user activity isn't as strong as in September - March.
