Forums - Nintendo - Wii U To Be $200 And Launch November 18th?

Yes, but it's the "some assembly required" SKU. For $200 you get the controller and the CPU, but you have to buy the GPU, system casing, power button, etc separately and put it all together yourself.

Seriously though, I'm sure this isn't true. I will say, however, that if there is any substance behind this rumor whatsoever, perhaps $249 isn't too far-fetched afterall.

Probably not, but if true... day 1

They'd have been better off spending an extra $50 on the hardware if this is the case and launching at $250.

$199.99 indicates they cut big corners on the hardware. I'm not buying it though, I think this rumor is BS, like most of the stuff from these Nintendo fansites.

$200 is laughable not just for the simple fact that there's no way Nintendo could afford to release it at such a low price, but also because if it were actually released at the height of the holiday shopping season, people would literally be killing each other to get one. It would be your typical midnight Black Friday scene at Walmart, except throughout the country and at any store carrying the Wii U.

Edit:  Not to mention all the price gouging that would occur in the 2nd hand market as people with no intention of actually playing the system snap it up and then sell it on eBay for about 3-4X the MSRP.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

hell, at $200 I might pick one up!!!

It's significantly more powerful than a PS3, and includes an extremely expensive controller.

I really don't see it being $50 cheaper than the PS3.

I went to that expo and talked to one of the Wii U demo workers and they claimed it woupd cost more than the Wii did at launch, so it should be more like $300. I can't verify the expertise of the person I talked to but the Expo was held the day after the product conference. I would find it odd for this person to verify a pricing like that when it would be the complete opposite, unless she was talking about Wii's current price but I remember talking about launch pricing with them.

If this is true it will be hard not to get, especially after playing Zombie U. I do not like the Wii very much but the Wii U is taking steps in the right direction I'm just not sure if it is enough for me to go off my PS3 or to stop me from getting a PS4. The Wii U seems like what the Wii should have been but better. Right now it is loking like the most capable system avalable but in a year it might find itself on the bottom shelf...or not. It still seems like a direct competitor to the PS3 and 360. Are the Japanese excited for Wii U or are they skeptical?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

There are the rumors of it having a lower powerd processor. So maybe it got a fairly decent GPU and an upscaled Wii CPU.

The GPU is probably the most expensive thing in the consle and a retail 4870 is 139 now. 1.5 GB of RAM wuold run about $20 retail. The controller we can assume is 30-40.

I say its possible.

0.o this is weird, I don't believe this. Didn't Reggie already said that the Wii U will be more expensive than the Wii at launch? Couldn't imagine being it cheaper than the Wii
