Forums - Gaming - First trailer of MGS Ground Zeroes! MGS5 announced!

Honestly the only reason this is probably getting a PS3/360 version is because that's the only way they can probably recoup the development costs.

The PS4/720/PC are really the only way to run the game in the same fidelity shown in that trailer. But they won't have a big userbase for a while, PS4/720 even if they sell every last one probably is looking at 5-6 million at best for each platform by spring 2014.

I think you're going to see this for a lot of games through 2014.

Are we sure there was no mistranslation with "open world"?

Maybe they meant the areas will be bigger and less linear than in previous games, but still separate from each other. This seemed like an island and was quite big, yes, but not "open world" big. And the fact that you can take a helicopter to other countries makes me think it is in fact a few quite large, separate areas.

Anyway I hope the story doesn't suffer, but this means that there will be a better gameplay/cutscene ratio, since you can dick around for quite as long as you want. I hope it's more similar to MGS3 than MGS4 in the cutscene aspect.

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

I think Solid Snake will be in MGS5, and will actually die in a dramatic sequence.

I believe this too. That Kojima means that each level or mission area is a huge, open, sandbox where you're free to approach your task however you like. I don't think there will be a hub world or hub map from where you can choose mission areas anyway you like, like in a true open world game. Most likely these missions will come in a linear order so the story telling will be just fine, like MGS fans prefer to have it.

But we should still see the sandbox element as a revolution and Kojima should be highly praised. I am very impressed that he chose this design in these times where developers increasingly want to control the player and restrict freedom.

I am totally sold on this game.

No way!

This is current gen? When I seen this at first I was like yup next gen is coming! Then PS3/X360/PC!?!? What the hells next gen going to look like if we have graphics this amazing on these old machines. I know it's the PC version that was shown but still someone mentioned the PS3 version will be fairly close to it. Can't wait to see next gen graphics!

You've already seen them and apparently you weren't impressed >_>

That was only a little clip of the new Unreal engine. There are plenty of engines that put out better graphics then the unreal engine. Also those graphics that were displayed is likely just a base for multiplatform graphics on the X720 and PS4, whenever the new hardwares are actually out one will probably be better then the other and will have much better looking first party games.

So that clip of the new Unreal Engine 4 is just a taste of how much better things can get. Also compare games from the beginning of this gen to now, it almost looks like they went through another gen of graphics.

Not Unreal Engine 4, no. And that engine was running on a PC. If you expect next-gen consoles to be more powerful than the most powerful PCs of today you're in for a rude awakening . As a tech demo, UE4 is more impressive than what we saw here, but this is of course a running game which makes it more impressive than otherwise.

Interesting thought of mine, I remember when they first showed off Unreal 3.  I was like "OMG", and then they made a game using it.  It was almost night and day.  All that advanced displacement maps were gone.  Lighting wasn't anything good.  Gears was barely "almost" as good as that tech demo.  I'll hand my hats off to Gears 3 though.
