Is this a good graphics card to play games like Diablo 3 or Starcraft 2? I have been looking into getting into PC gaming and i though Diablo 3 would be a great starting point. Also if you have any recommendations on a graphics card i should get I'm open to any chip or a whole new computer if thats what you recommend.

Blizzard games will run on pretty much anything dedicated. That's a decent video card anyway.

That is great card to have in a laptop. I have a much less powerful 560M and I can play diablo3 at 1080p60 with all settings maxed but shadows on medium. I would recommend a quad core CPU to go along with the GPU, makes a huge difference.

It will run both those games well. Can you link to the laptop you intend to buy?

That chip is laptop-only and can't be swapped out by buying a single part. It only comes as part of an expensive gaming laptops ($1000).

That will max out D3. As for StarCraft 2, any mid range graphics card will max that out. However, SC2 is a very processor heavy game. You will need at least a quad-core at 3.2GHz to max out the game.

best to get a desktop first, then think of laptops.

Not everybody wants to have a gaming desktop. Space might be an issue, or perhaps they want it for college and just want to do some gaming on the side.

Anyway, the GT 650M should be a pretty solid performer.  Not great, but still pretty good for a laptop.

My laptop only has a integrated Intel HD 3000 gpu. It's not very good for gaming, but that's what I have my desktop for. ;-p

you enter the pc master race in style.

that kind of money for a laptop buys you a much better desktop.

I have an ATI 6520 in my laptop. Only tried playing Dota 2 and some minor indies so far and they run well. Should run Starcraft 2 well enough. Don't know about Diablo 3.

Diablo 3 should run fine. It's not that demanding. I was able to run it on my 2011 Macbook Air with an Integrated Intel HD 3000 gpu (the one I mentioned above.) It was at low settings for everything and that resolution wasn't very high (1440 x 900), but I could play it. The GT 650M will run the game fine on a laptop.

*I was playing it on my laptop when I had trouble getting the game to install on my Win7 desktop. It took awhile to get that resolved, but the game runs much better on my GTX 580 SLI desktop. ;-p

It should run Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 no problem. If you want to play some more demanding games though, you'll likely have to compromise some graphical quality for performance.

As others have mentioned, a desktop will get you much better gaming performance for the same money, but I can completely understand if you need a multipurpose mobile machine.
