Between EA and boxed games, I choose boxed games.

Well I don't this we should read this as EA are going to abandon boxed games, but rather there is no longer going to be any money in boxed games for all publishers.

Unfortunately, I think I agree with them and in some ways it could be good, say; buying FIFA 13 gets a potential copy on every platform? But of course it won't work like this and everything will get fragmented, just look at Steam, you often get another layer of DRM as well as the Steam DRM

Tell that to NSMB2's 5% download sales.

This is slightly veering off the main topic, but check the graph below. Physical music sales have been declining a lot in recent years, and I wouldn't be surprised if music and video games continued this trend of declining physical sales into the future.

On top of that, the music industry's digital sales aren't growing fast and are unable to offset the decline in physical. People merely not buying as much as they used to due to:

1) Pirating

2) Stupid investment choices (regurgitated auto-tuned shit pop artists vs. rehashed sequels after sequels) make consumers uninterested in the medium and move away from it.

3) Our industry isn't a necessity like toilet paper, consumers *choose* to be here and can easily leave to find other things to do with their time. That's something I feel like developers don't quite understand.

4) Other reasons I forgot to mention

I like owning most of my games boxed. Like he says, there's something collectable about them that I really enjoy. I like having them on my shelves. I like looking at their manuals. Also, I can trade them in if I don't like them (for the time being).

That said, I have been increasingly more digital lately, because the offers on many of those things are so damn good.

Still, if it's a series I love I'd rather have a boxed copy. I've gone as far as to buy the physical versions of WipEout HD Fury and Ratchet & Clank: A Quest for Booty even though they were both originally download-only titles, and I'll continue to do this in future as long as the option is there.

Is this one reason?
