Forums - Sony - Should Sony Bundle PS Vita With PS3?

Hot of the announcement of the cross-buy feature Sony announced with PS3 and Vita, I began to wonder; is it time for Sony to start bundling PS Vita’s with their home console?

In case you are unaware, Sony recently announced a cross-buy system in where players who purchase certain titles on PS3, will be able to download the PS Vita version of the game absolutely FREE. It’s an amazing promotion and a very good move for gamers who have both Sony devices.

PS Vita has failed to gain ground at retail and continues to be outsold by its main competitor, the Nintendo 3DS. Although the system is a very sleek and sexy device, consumers haven’t really set the retail shelves on fire with the handheld and Sony understands that.  Although the handheld is still in its infancy, Sony has to be feeling some pressure to move a ton more units of the device.

If Sony decided to bundle the PS Vita with new PS3 systems, not only would it give gamers a tremendous value and kickstart sales of both machines and help take the wind out of Nintendo’s sails when it launches the WiiU later this year.  Sony has already displayed how its handheld can be a secondary controller and with the PS3 showing it has plenty of life left in it, this may be something that the company may want to explore.

What do you guys think?  Should Sony consider this move?

And they should bundle it with their 24?-inch 3DTV, and throw in their wireless headset, and call it the MEGA SONY GAMING BUNDLE

Or they can just watch Nintendo take over the world.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

No...I don't think that would work. They could include PS Vita games with PS3's and/or PS3 games...that could work

Until there are a library of games that require PSV as a controller for PS3, it's not going to work. Bundling is the only solution for Vita right now since they're not dropping the price any time soon. Right now there is zero momentum behind the idea of PSV as a controller for PS3, and it's not even something that the general public is aware of.

Yes. They should do crossbuy. Buy a PS3 get a free Vita.

Free is crazy, but they should maybe try buy a PS3 and get a coupon for the Vita of $50 or $100 off

I think they should make vita the controller for ps4. That bundled and priced right and with the right software intergration like a tablet. It would be an unbeatable console.

What planet do these people live on? The financial implications would be immense.

Genius solution, it's not selling so just give it away for free?

Isn't that what they are doing with Vita games? *Pokerface*

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

OR buy a vita get 100 off a ps3

Giving away free Vitas to PS3 buyers would cost Sony tons of money, and there would be no guarantee whatsoever for getting that money back. Sony wouldn't get anything for the Vita HW so they'd have to rely on people buying lots of software instead. Sony would probably have to include a memory card in that bundle as well or they'd piss a bunch of people off.
"Hey, you get this Vita for free with the PS3!"
"Yay! Free stuff!"
"But that Vita is gimped unless you buy this overpriced memory card!"
"#&%!$@!!!"

A bundle where you save $100 wouldn't be as though on the wallet for Sony as giving away the Vita for free, but they'd still lose money and since the bundle would be around 50% more expensive than a standalone PS3 you'd only sell to those already considering getting a Vita. Those buying a PS3 but not having that big of an interest or that much money wouldn't want to pay that much more.

Cutting the price of the Vita would be a better solution.
