There is a game called mother? 0.o

Yup, named after the Beatles song (or is it John Lennon's only, I forget) Mother

Amazing series, really one of the best RPG series around. Reason: it's so imaginative.

from when is it?

There are 3 games

Mother - it's from the NES - 1989 - Never officially translated, but there's a pretty great fan translation ROM called Earthbound Zero in the web. Very hardcore, I never played, but watched Chuggaaconroy's let's play and highly recommend it (both the LP and the game). Pretty hardcore, though.

Mother 2 - SNES - 1994 - The only official translated game from Nintendo, came as Earthbound. Fantastic RPG, and one of the biggest cult classic games of all time.

Mother 3 - GBA 2005 - Reggie didn't wanted to translate it... but the internet did! And it's fantastic! I played it on my DS and it's even more imaginative than the others - there's even an ancient race of... Drag Queens and that is not even close to the "worst" they could think of!

And then there's fan made 4, which is going smoothly. May be released soon (soon by fan made games are usually 2 years, lol)

I tried mother3

but

as soon as battles began I stopped playing because I cant stand that almost "text based" battle system where you "click" on attack or something your characters - which are not even on screen and just appear as NAMES lol - attack the enemies and the enemies just shake for a second. Thats so uber lazy and ugly I stopped playing.

I mean its turn based so Im not gonna love it but when its turn based it can at least be somehow visually appealing because I dont want to get bored to death when playing. Turn based and then stuff like this no thank you.

I still have interest in Mother and I also like the games setting and visuals (not the battle ones of course) so I hope they will come up with new Mother game in the future.

So what you're trying to say is that you don't like First Person RPGs?

In that case, stay away from classic Shin Megami Tensei, Dragon Quest I-VII and Shining the Holy Ark, I doubt you would like those either.  I wouldn't say it was lazy either, just a design choice that's looking back to a past gaming convention that was almost universally accepted; from the little I've seen of the Mother series I would say it is anything other than lazy.

I do like first person RPGs when they are like skyrim etc.  Or well when I see myself /an arm wielding a sword or gun whatever. (i would probably not play COD or BF3 or PerfectDark or TimeSplitters when I would not see any  arm holding a gun)

And btw I highly doubt that  Mother is a first person RPG  because I have a party of 4? people   how the hell would that be a first person rpg?  At least I should be ablte to see the other 3 members then right?  Or do they mix up into a strange monster where everyone is inside the same body with 4 heads and 8 arms and stuff  :) ?

BTW noone said the Game was made lazy  they just didnt care to make a better "battle screen/hud/whatever"-

Yeah, I know what you mean, Mother is the strange combination of 3rd person exploration, but first person (though I guess that is arguable given, as you said, it's kind of impossible to have 4 people's 1st person views at once).  Usually first person RPGs have dungeon exploration in the first person as well, see SMT2 below:

DQ (up to VIII) is the only other RPG series I can think of with first person battles, but 3rd person exploration:

Rightly or wrongly, I think a lot of Mother's appeal comes from it's quirky nature, which some might argue it's battle screen is a part of.  Personally, I'm not at all fussed about it, but I can understand if some people have a problem with it.

Lufia is another series that comes to mind.

I actually remember it being really common in the NES/SNES days.

Seems like another.

I had heard that they never bothered QA checking the last dungeon, and that it is practically impossible to beat the game.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

You are both wrong.

EarthBound Zero is an official translation that was simply never released.

The game was very much playtested throughout and veyr popular in Japan; it's just oldschool difficult, Dragon Quest-style (that is, the first Dragon Quest)

Yeah, that's right, I forgot that story about the translation. The translator even cofirmed at one point they used (as in, the ROM is) his official translation

Paladin's Quest for SNES is similar to Earthbound as well in terms of first person view in battle and third person view/helicopter view while outside of battle.

Etrian Odyssey or however one writes it is one of the games for the DS that I bought but never played because of obvious reasons. Btw I have all Dragon Quest games for DS    I am planning on playing them  but  didnt pay much attention to the battles lol.    I'm a bit worried now lol

Etrian Odyssey

P.S.  Oh man  i turned the thread into a  "before person view" thread

These one too:

Great series

Hmm, I think I should somehow get Mother. The battle-system you describe is the classical RPG-system and I love that. Etrian Odyssey does exactly what you describes - and I love the game. (Hopefully Etrian Odyssey IV will come to Europe, please, please.)
