*Buy a PS3 game and get Vita version for free.

OK THIS ONE IS STUPID.

2. What incentives have developers got to make games for VITA if you can buy a PS3 game and get a free one for your portable? Why would anyone buy a vita version of a game ever again lol.

That's exactly what I thought when I read that.

"..if you can buy a PS3 game" What? It is the SAME game, not "a" game.

Obviously a developer has three choices:

a) Design the game for PS3 only

b) Design the game for Vita only

c) Design the game for both.

Looking into the future, it might be that developing for both PS4 and Vita might be a minimal additional financial burden if the developer tools will allow that.

Now if someone has a PS3/4 AND a Vita, s/he very likely would buy the game for the preferred system, but not likely for both systems, or not buy the game at all if s/he can't decide. In cases a) or b) Cross buying does not matter, in case c) it considerably increases the chances that the game will be bought. SO there is your incentive for the developer...

And what pretail may that be?  Monster Hunter 4?  A sequel to a console title.  Zelda?  Oh right Ocarina of time is a port of a console title.  Mario Kart 7?  Yes a sequel to the console title.  Super Mario 3D Land?  Closest thing... and is a 3D version of a 2D title, which happens to be on the Wii.  Kid Icarus could have been done on the Wii.  Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop is being compared to Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, which are console games.

Don't try to downplay Kid Icarus.  It's precisely the type of game I'm taking about.  You can't get it on the Wii or Wii U, you have to buy a 3DS to enjoy it.  And what difference does it make that it could've been done on Wii?  The point is that it isn't on Wii. Super Mario 3D Land

But let me make this easy for you to understand by giving you this one perfect example:  Notice how main series Pokemon are ONLY released on Nintendo's handhelds...  If you buy a Nintendo home console, the best you can do for a Pokemon fix is a spinoff.  If you want Pokemon, you MUST buy a Nintendo handheld.

Vita's biggest games are down-sized console games that are releasing alongside superior versions of said games on HD consoles.  And calling a Nihilistic developed Call of Duty a down-sizing is putting things very nicely here.  Sony is making the Vita an extension of the PS3 and that will be the system's undoing.  Cross buy may hurt more than it helps.

You do realize Nintendo's handhelds would cease to exist without Pokemon?  That and cost are the only reason why they've never made a full blown RPG on consoles.  And RPGs are console games, by that reasoning Pokemon is a "down-sized console game".   So what's your argument again?  And just cause you don't wanna share games between handhelds and console, doesn't mean others don't.  I mean, all my trips to Italy, when I'd sit down playing games they were always console games ported to handhelds.  A Link to the Past, Legend of Dragoon on a modded PSP, Final Fantasy 4-6 on GBA.  I'd rather sit down with Metal Gear Solid 4 while I'm on a trip than with Nintendogs.  Hell when I was playing Final Fantasy XIII-2 there were plenty of times when I wanted to put my save on the Vita and curl up with it in my bed and grind a way and do sidequests but I couldn't.

OK THIS ONE IS STUPID.

For two reasons:
1. It simply shows that Sony is treating the Vita as a portable home console.
2. What incentives have developers got to make games for VITA if you can buy a PS3 game and get a free one for your portable? Why would anyone buy a vita version of a game ever again lol.

What I thought: FUCK YEAH!! More free games

Exactly, I already paid for the game, dafuq do I have to pay for it again just to play it on a handheld?

So you are admitting that the PSV has basically home console games just converted to HH form?

That's the thing here, Sony need to distinguish the two more.

Why can't Sony do something different? i.e. merge the two platforms to form one ecosystem.

I see nothing wrong with offering some of the first party titles for free on the Vita upon purchase of the ps3 version. You'd have to be a complete moron to argue otherwise.

All the experts on this site... Anyway, what you guys don't seem to understand, games can be ported to the vita in only a few weeks. It would be cheaper for a developer to port a game to the vita than to make a dlc pack. That's why Sony is doing it, it isn't costing them much to do it, and no where does it say that every port is going to behave this way, but if it's nothing than a port than why not do it? I swear, Sony could make a dream machine that turned into what ever you wanted, and you still find away to bitch about it.

I don't understand Nintendo fans. Aren't New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, Legend of Zelda and Starfox all scaled down versions of console games when they come out on the 3DS?

Like Superchunk said, why play scaled down version when you can the real deal on consoles supposedly?

you are both missing the point.

If i get a free game on Vita with my PS3 purchase, what incentive do I have of buying exclusive VITA games that are essentially the same game but a minor spin off? All it will do is hurt game sales on VITA when everyone (including me) will take full advantage of the "free" vita version
