When Final Fantasy X came out there was about 6million PS2's in Japan. FFX sold about 2 million in the first few weeks.

How much did Devil May Cry 3 sell? Silent Hill 4? Gran Turismo 4? Final Fantasy XII? Why should the next sequels on PS3 sell more than they did on the 22m userbase PS2?

GT3 had massive bundling in Europe / America and PS2 was bigger than PS worldwide.
PS3 is definitely not bigger than PS2!!

I don't think anyone on this site would expect the sequels of the game you listed above will sell more on PS3 than those on PS2.
The global market is changing. It is getting more difficult for a console game to reach 1 million in Japan because Japanese gamers prefer handheld or mobile phone games now. How many Wii games actually hit 1 million in Japan? HSG5 sale number is about the half of SMG in Japan. SMG is a huge success and HSG5 is a joke? I hope you get my point

PS3 is pretty much going to top out at around 4.5-5.5 million in Japan

if yoy notice the chart s the ps3 is growing at a fast rate it only needs a couple of more weeks to beat the n64 (at the same time period.)
Ye Gods, another the-PS3-is-doomed thread.
Basic math check: Japan's population is 126 million or so, the US is at 303 million. So in per capita terms, the PS3 is selling slightly better in Japan than in the US (at a ratio of 7:5).
Well its definetly got a tough fight in Japan, but I'm not saying Japan is worthless, but at current circumstances it can afford to lose it. Of course that means it'll have to do extra better in Europe/Other and America.
But I personally think its biggest struggle is in America. I mean in Japan and Europe/Other its really only had one competitor: Wii. but in America its got both Wii and 360, which is not a good thing. And taking 3rd there would be tragic. PS3 has got to find a way to make ground there and by leaps and bounds. It can't afford to take even a close 3rd place there.
