Forums - Nintendo - Will the Wii U be able to do what the Wii did not? Keep gamers interested~

I'm still unsure of this asymmetric gameplay Nintendo is pushing, that's the biggest gamble for me, especially when it comes to casual gamers.

asymmetric gameplay is the only thing actually intersting with the wiiU. touch screens are old news now...we've had that for ages.  i've enjoyed asymmetric gameplay a lot on my iphone but that includes time asymmetric as well.  maybe there is something cool with being asymmetric and in real time.

OT - i think nintendo need to get gamers interest before they need to start worrying about keeping that interest.  ps360 sloppy seconds won't do much to grab anyones attention.  pikmin 3 is a wii game as is NSMB wii (controls wise).  only nintendoland actually seems to be build specifically for the wii U so far... and no one seems to be interested in that around here.  that speaks volumes to me.

What the Hell did this say? Censorship is bullshit. Or was this the original post and Caravello is just trying to be funny?

He called you and other Nintendo fans a bunch of fanboys.  Would you have rather that I left this in your thread?

Wouldn't that call for more of a Ban?

Anywho...

Believe it or not, the guy didn't have an extensive mod history and I don't think that banning everyone that breaks a rule when I'm still feeling my way into the position is the best way to do things.

Would you like to tell me how to do my job some more?

Banning someone for calling others a fanboy is a bit extreme anyway. Amp handled it correctly.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

I bought a PS3 for one reason. My Wii failed to garner big 3rd party support.

At this point, no one can say whether or not Wii U will be able to avoid this blatant dismissal of a console by 3rd parties. However, this is a big reason why I started the hardware comparison thread. I want to know as much as possible about the next-gen machines so I can hopefully know if I'll need to buy a 2nd console again next gen. I'd prefer to not have to spend money on hardware and focus only on software.

As it stands now, I'll own a WiiU before the year's out. I'm buying two first party games and at least five 3rd party. I hope that trend continues for the next six years.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts as well: as long as WiiU gets good 3rd party support I'll only need WiiU and a computer (for strategy games). I haven't bought a PS3, but I've wanted to for quite a while...

I should write such an article about the HD consoles. With the PS2 I felt an urge to play one every now and then, but the 360 and PS3 have left me cold since years.

More specifically, I should make it an essay about the video game industry. Will they wake up and make variety again or will they continue to make all games more and more alike? Gaming went down the shutter for the most part this generation. It was mostly cheaply produced trash and expensively produced trash.

It's kinda funny (but mostly sad) that music have gone pretty much the same direction: there's a far greater variaty of genres, but all the hits sound alike. And I'm not just saying that. It's science.

The variety exists, it's on the indie section on Steam, mobile platforms, Sony's first party, XBLA, Nintendo's first party... practically everywhere except the AAA third party space. Sadly it seems you're only open to experiencing one of the options mentioned.

Of all the games I have spanning generations 3-7 I can honestly say that most of my favourite games are actually Wii games (Mario Galaxy/2, Zelda TP/SS, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Red Steel 2, Xenoblade, Brawl, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Zak and Wiki). None of these were 'just more of the same' that others have been accusing the wii of. It's a console meant for everyone so sure there's going to be a lot of shovelware we're not interested in. But if you look closely there is a lot of meat that outclasses a lot of highly rated gamecube/N64 games. Xenoblade alone is worth the console purchase and wait. Now Nintendo seems to be paying close attention to third parties hoping not to lose them. So will the Wii U hold onto gamers in a way that the Wii could not? That is entirely up to us, the gamers.

The Wii U merges the gameplay opportunities of the XBox 360/PS3, Wii, DS/3DS, and Phone/Tablet into one device; and companies that are interested should be able to find gameplay mechanics from one of these devices that will enhance the gameplay in whatever game they're developing. The amount of things developers can think is infinite. If it fails, then I give up on the gaming community - you can have your 'apps' and I'll just stick with the deeper stuff that comprises generations 3-7.

I for one am excited for the Wii U. It'll most definitely have all the first party gold I look forward to - and any third party support is just icing on the cake.

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

I haven't become a gamer to play small downloadable games, so forget about those. They are just gaming snacks that usually last for a couple of hours at best and most of them are not worth coming back to replay them. It's a crime that everything that doesn't fit into today's blockbuster model is automatically shoved into the download space where games don't get properly fleshed out.

So there's not much left on your list and you concede that third parties are guilty of what I said in my previous post. Gaming isn't in a healthy state right now and it looks like it's getting worse rather than better.

I don't know what's true and what's troll with you sometimes :P

the Wii has kept me interested pretty much until now
i dont know whats all this about
theres like 80 or so games for the Wii with 8 or higher score on Metacritic
im pretty sure most people havent even tried half of them

but i understand your point
the HD consoles havent picked up my interest, not a bit, and games are there.....
maybe you chose the wrong console Brian xD
