Of all the games I have spanning generations 3-7 I can honestly say that most of my favourite games are actually Wii games (Mario Galaxy/2, Zelda TP/SS, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Red Steel 2, Xenoblade, Brawl, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Zak and Wiki). None of these were 'just more of the same' that others have been accusing the wii of. It's a console meant for everyone so sure there's going to be a lot of shovelware we're not interested in. But if you look closely there is a lot of meat that outclasses a lot of highly rated gamecube/N64 games. Xenoblade alone is worth the console purchase and wait. Now Nintendo seems to be paying close attention to third parties hoping not to lose them. So will the Wii U hold onto gamers in a way that the Wii could not? That is entirely up to us, the gamers.

The Wii U merges the gameplay opportunities of the XBox 360/PS3, Wii, DS/3DS, and Phone/Tablet into one device; and companies that are interested should be able to find gameplay mechanics from one of these devices that will enhance the gameplay in whatever game they're developing. The amount of things developers can think is infinite. If it fails, then I give up on the gaming community - you can have your 'apps' and I'll just stick with the deeper stuff that comprises generations 3-7.

I for one am excited for the Wii U. It'll most definitely have all the first party gold I look forward to - and any third party support is just icing on the cake.

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.
