It's just that runnign away and gets punished very easily, even more on melee.

Does it?  Whenever I've played Melee against my friends, or even against higher level AI, I can run away for the majority of the match if I want to.  Certainly until they get bored/ the AI switches onto someone else.

Perhaps it's different on Brawl because I've not played that in about a year, but on Melee it's very achievable.

It does, at least with experienced players or with comon sense at least. When a 4vs4 battle start the players usually get divided by 2v2 after an encounter. keeping watch of who you fight with or how much damage they have is usually pretty common, specially when someone died, so them missing your damag counter or life stock tell me they werent paying attention or where just enjoying a good time without taking the fight seriously. I agree with the AI but again that attacks everything that is close and usually only useful when you do a 3/2/1 vs 1(p1).

How could you say something like this?!

This game is AH-MA-ZING!! (I'm just joking Blkfish, but this is mostly your opinion... I think.)

The thing is, I get what you're saying, but the amount of 'air time' you can have on Melee with certain characters is just stupid (Peach being the prime example, Zelda is another good one.).  So if someone sees that I'm high on lives, they can try and follow me through the air but chances are they won't catch me, especially on one of the maps that goes in rotations (like Hyrule).  The alternative is going to where I'll land and waiting but if they're standing still waiting for me to drop then chances are they're just going to get slapped by someone else and have to deal with that.  Then I'll land, and take off again.  It would take a concentrated effort by 2-3 players to stop the amount of stalling you can do with certain characters - which certainly could happen, but most people play the game to have fun smacking each other off the maps.

And that's exactly the point I mean.  Stalling and running away is cool as a viable tactic, sure, but it just slows down the pace of the game and makes it that little bit more frustrating for everyone else.  At least, it has whenever I've done it.

Interesting concept, In SSB defense is a pre-emptive strategy, but in PSASBR it is secondary because you only need to go on the defensive once someone has super. As in the match starts out full offense and then switches to opportunities of defense until it is safe to go back into offense.

In SSB it did seem you could be penalized for offensive tactics, as in placing yourself into danger to do damage. Sometimes it worked out, sometimes it didn't. Opportunity to avoid damage by staying out of the action, usually paid off...until other caught on and teamed up against you...which is kind of lame. SSB is a great game though and I don't see any reason PSASBR won't be.

Pretty much for the vast majority of the match you MUST play offensively, which makes the player have shallow strategies.

It may be shallow, but perhaps it is more balanced? I wouldn't really call SSB being diverse in strategy to compare, it's either stay out of the action or be in the action. In PS All Stars its either be in the action avoid the action. Kind of similar without the brawler equivelent of camping. Are you a camper in SSB?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

pfft. Unless everyone is a heavy character chances are that they can chase you pretty fast and not every stage is hyrule castle almost all of them, if not only hyrule being the excpetion, would leave you in an edge with no where to run and make you defend yourself. Also if you start going in circles around the map of hyrule you pretty much will encounter someone else or will make attention goes to you. Your situation with peach is totally dependand of your friends not choosing to go after you, no that they cant do it or is impossible.

And as ia said, it's not a tactic, much less is staling. There are other ways to play defensively that involve grabs, projectiles or zoning wich are legitimaly and requires a level of skill and mindgames.

This is a bad analogy.

I only watched a few clips of some battles on YouTube, and to me it just looks like a slower, less chaotic version of SSB. The stages and environments looked great (as you'd expect), but I can't see this game stealing SSB's crown as the king of cross-franchise battle games.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

The game will more than likely be mediocre, but you should at the very least wait until it's out before calling it garbage. Y'know, it's still in beta, it's not a finished product.

Really? It's a comparison. Slightly different, mostly the same, highlighting that it isn't a worse game than SSB. I underlined the portion that clarifies why you shouldn't have made your post.

It's very generalized, most mp games that crown a winner based on the last one alive would fit the description also you said "strategy" of the game something wich i found in smb overall more dynamic since they way to ringout an oponent is more diverse than rush to get a super.
