the problem with using 1gig a second DL speed as your base for calculating is thats the theoretical top speed , usualy done in ideal circumstances over a short distance 70-80% is more likely , hence my 100 MB per sec plan running off the  NBN  (National broadband network in Australia) gets around 70 -80 MB per sec real word speeds , the NBN also has 1GIG top speed but at the moment no isps who use the NBN inferstructure  have plans for it they don't see a market , still these same isps said the majority would only  take up the 12MB and 50MB speed plans but that has not been the case with the majority taking out the 100MB sec plans.

Oh boy, I would lag out like a mother in MW3!! It would take about 50 shots to kill someone instead of 20. (I have a 50mb/connection)

Ah... for some reason I thought it was the other way around.... which explains Virgin Media's connection is actually just a tenth of the Google one (assuming their website has the correct termination)

Use this as a failsafe:

I have never, ever, ever seen ISP's use BYTES. Ever. All of them list speeds in Bits in order to appear faster than they actually are. Bits are approximately 1/8th the size of a Byte.

Clarifying again for everyone:

Mb = Megabit (What every Internet Service Providor uses)

MB = Megabyte (What all file sizes are calculated in)

1MB = 8Mb. A "bit" is approximately 1/8th the size of a "byte."

That explains why my router says 120 Mb/sec, but I usually never see download speeds of over 2.5 MB/sec.
I never understood that issue, but now I do.

mine is 7 mbps, i remember that being extremely fast.
