You both need to stop that and get your acronyms right! You are NOT allowed to mess up acronyms in a thread where I have already explicitly described what each means. :P
lower case b = bit. Upper case B = byte.
Google explicitly mentions everywhere that their service is a Gb. ---> Bit
EDIT: Also, Happydolphin, as I pointed out earlier, the very first sentence of this thread says "gigabit" in it. :P

Ah... for some reason I thought it was the other way around.... which explains Virgin Media's connection is actually just a tenth of the Google one (assuming their website has the correct termination)

Use this as a failsafe:
I have never, ever, ever seen ISP's use BYTES. Ever. All of them list speeds in Bits in order to appear faster than they actually are. Bits are approximately 1/8th the size of a Byte.
Clarifying again for everyone:
Mb = Megabit (What every Internet Service Providor uses)
MB = Megabyte (What all file sizes are calculated in)
1MB = 8Mb. A "bit" is approximately 1/8th the size of a "byte."
