To have them on Virtual Console isn't entirely out of the question. The reason why they haven't made it onto the VC right now is the web of IP involved, and getting MS and Activision (and possibly EA) to sign off on it, etc. If MS sold Rare back to Nintendo, then that would significantly simplify the web.

The biggest remaining issue would be getting Activision's OK... and the thing standing in the way of that is Activision's remake, which they might fear would have the original on VC as competition. But they'd be much more open to it, I'd imagine, for Wii U.

Killer Instinct, as far as I can see, is only being blocked by Microsoft, so if Nintendo got it back, there'd be no real impediment to publishing it on VC.

Well MS isnt selling Rare, so for now it is out the question. Ninty already tried a few years back, no dice.

Probably not. In fact, I'd say that any new IP Rare created while at MS would probably remain with MS - that includes the various Kinect games and Viva Pinata.

This makes no sense. They'd have to bargain for Rare's IPs in addition to the purchase of any staff or the studio's name, so if they just wanted Banjo then they'd just buy Banjo.

But I doubt Microsoft would be selling one of their few notable all ages, family friendly IPs.

There is really nothing about this rumor that adds up.

MS could sell Rare and keep all of their IPs. They may have created Banjo and KI before MS but they are still wholly owned by them. Halo was created before Bungie was picked up but MS still owns that.
