Forums - Gaming - "MS losing Banjo IP to Nintendo" ?

Is it a good thang?

They should buy the whole Rare back 156 83.42%

NoOooOoooOoooOoo 31 16.58%

Total:187

I don't think that's going to happen. I think it's just a rumor.

Meh, it's a fun thought, if only for nostalgic reasons, but Rare at this point is merely a shell of its former self. The days of quality titles like Banjo, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Diddy Kong Racing, are looooong gone. Now they've basically become the casual sector of MS game studios. That's not to say they couldn't make decent games for Wii U, but I'd trust Retro more with their old franchises more than I'd trust Rare themselves.

I wouldn't. Not that I think Rare would necessarily pull them off better now, understand.

It's just that Rare's old titles were also intrinsically British in their style and humor, and that added so much to the games - particularly Conker and Banjo.

Doubtful. Rare is fucking dead, and what's left of it isn't worth buying at any price.

If Nintendo gets the purchase it would make sense bringing them back. I can see Rare coming back to some semblence of themselves with Nintendo, plus Nintendo used to oversee Rare. They arent slouches when games are produced.

If this were still 2002, yes. It's 2012. The culture that made Rare what it was has been thoroughly destroyed in the intervening decade.

I dunno. Nintendo is in talks with Namco to work on the next Super Smash title. They could make a secondary contract to work on Killer Instinct if they secured the rights to it. I would buy a Wii U for Rare titles under Nintendos belt. Some of the old Rare people work for Nintendo and Retro.

Wow just what Nintendo needs another Jump´n Run game.

Its called a plaftformer. Its a genre, and I would rasther see more of those than another miliary shooter.

Nintendo has enough of those. A military shooter from them would bring some diversity

Nintendo doesn't need a military shooter to survive. They are better than that.

Indeed, they survive relying on Mario.

First off it says Banjo and Kazooie IP...MS owns Rare and Rare owns the IP. So it doesn't sound like Nintendo is after Rare, but the IP.

2nd. Rumors have it that Rare is working on Multiple Next gen xbox titles. It looks like MS is going to try and reintroduce rare maybe back to their roots. One of the games was reported to be a 1st person shooter...

I seriously doubt Rare the company is going anywhere. I doubt MS will give up the Banjo IP either.

Sorry, Nintendo isnt Microsoft. They need variety, not shooters. I agree Mario is a crutch, but so is Zelda, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Metroid and others spanning various genres. It's not a new genre Nintendo needs, but a new character with a new story suitable for a new generation. They need to brainstorm this long and hard for next gen.
