Forums - Sony - New PS3 models 16GB, 250GB, and 500GB plus rumored prices!

seems about right. Sony know retailers will undercut each other! that 16GB PS3 will be $149.99 on Amazon. with Sony suggested price of $179.99 it still gives them higher profits then if they just said $149. its the retailers taking the hit to get games sales. watch it happen!

any idea how this will translate to UK pricing?
I'm thinking of getting the 16GB model and putting 1TB in ;)

Just like a couple other people said...

16GB = $179 (or $149 if they want to set the gaming world on fire!)
250GB = $199
500GB = $249

but also...

500GB + Move = $299 (or $279 to say even cheaper than Wii U's expected price)

Good news all around for gamers, cheaper and more efficient PS3 hardware!

I highly doubt their move bundle would be for the largest SKU, probably the 16gb. Since motion control gaming is more toward the casual crowd they want to keep their price down if they can, bundling with a cheaper SKU will do that. So you could get the 250gb PS3 for $200 or the 16gb PS3 with a move controller and sports champions 1 or 2 or both.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

So I read the GAF thread. You have the price wrong for the most expensive model. It's $269, not $279.

Those are great prices. Amazing if true. I was expecting $199, $249 and $299. We're talking about an $80 cut.

I see it as a $20 cut. Most consumers look at the main model, which went from $249 to $229 but received the expected HDD upgrade.

Just so you're aware, the Move bundle has always been, and currently is, for their largest SKU.  They're not going to price two SKUs the same and compete with themselves.  The prices need to be staggered, and they're not going to all of a sudden change that.

besides.. a 16gb HDD would kill off any reason to purchase playstation plus.. which is going to be a big source of revenue for sony..

Well they released a 20 gb model once...perhaps the people they are targeting with this aren't likely to buy plus anyways?

well they didn't really offer much in terms of digital content at the time.. a lot of people thought 20gb was enough, and that the 60gb model would last for years upon years.. I have a 120gb ps3 and I struggle to keep content on the HDD..

I so called the $229 price. I would like some sort of praise from the Gamrconnect community.

No, you made a random guess like you and tons of other do every day, quickly forgetting when you are wrong, but bragging non stop and putting it in your signature when you happen to get it right. You're just like those amateur penny traders on Wall Street who claim to have 'a formula'. It's just dumb luck so get over it.

Wouldn't this make more sense?

16GB: $150 (they should be able to pull this off if there's only 16GB in it)

250GB: $199

500GB: $250

Pricing seems odd.

They may figure that $179 will push demand to as much as Sony could supply, so no need to drop it lower. Or perhaps, $179 looks about as good as $149 to consumers, so this is the lowest point to go for a best balance of profit and sales.

Or it might be the price they need to keep a decent profit margin rather than break-even or slip into the red again.
