Now that would be interesting.

In an ideal world Blizzard would buy themselves out lol

You know, I was thinking about that. They must make so much money from World of Warcraft subscriptions every year, alongside the huge Diablo 3 launch. But does all that money go straight to Vivendi? Idk how it works.
Bungie bought themselves out of Microsoft. Could the same not happen here?
| zarx said: Lol they tryed to shop it to take 2? They must be desperate to get rid of it, there is no way that they would be able to raise $10b, tho I see they have droped the asking price down to $8.27. Disney could afford it but they already stepped away from "core games" so not surprised. Tencent and Nexon can't afford it. I guess that the stock will end up on the open market at this rate, tho I wonder why they don't try selling Activision and Blizzard separately. |
But I thought that Activision Blizzard was in a strong position so that investors had strong reason to buy it?
Personally, I think the smartest move would be to sell off IP and studios individually (in some cases, selling them as a unit - Modern Warfare can go with Infinity Ward, for instance). They already shut down most of the less valuable studios, so the ones that remain should be worth quite a bit. MS bought Rare for $375 million - I'd expect that both Treyarch and Infinity Ward would be significantly more valuable than that. EA bought Bioware and Pandemic together for $775 million.
I honestly just can't see investors paying even $8 billion for Activision.

They probably could, they might need to take out a loan (or find an investor) to do it but I can't see why they couldn't. Tho the Michael Morhaime did say they were comfortable working under other people and have bad memories of living from project to project in the early days, tho considering how many money making devices they have at the moment I don't see how that would really be an issue.
The fanboy dream that would never happen would be Gabe helping them buy themselves out and partner up lol

They do but it's still a lot of money not many companies can afford it $8 billion is a hell of a lot of money and the economy is still in a bad place and credit is not easy to get especially in the reigon of $8 billion, and many of the companies that can afford it aren't interested in spending the money, MS was never going to buy them as Acti-Blizz would lose most of their value instantly.

ENSEMBLE, ACES, DIGITAL ANVIL, FASA.....all good studios killed because of Microsoft. Then look at RARE.....just a pitiful shadow of it's former self. Bungie....they got smart and got the hell away from Microsoft before it was too late. Microsoft is incompetent......no one can deny this. Activision would do wise to run, not walk, away from any parts of a Microsoft acquisition.

errr. Sony also closed a shitload of studios, insomniac run away from them etc... and they still a good manager.
Try Harder.

I totally agree, also because even without any other advantage, the two companies sold separately would have a lower price, and it could be far easier to find buyers.
One last doubt: why didn't they ask Google, Oracle, IBM or some Korean or Japanese giant? Or some Chinese? Having a huge Chinese interest in the whole gaming SW market, not just PC HW and SW and only console HW building like it is now, could help opening China to consoles, heck, competing gaming companies should even pay something to Vivendi to help this to happen, they'd gather great benefits too. But in this cases Americans should prepare themselves to see next CoD titles with the option to have the Chinese as the goods and the Americans as the baddies.

What? Yes Sony closed three studios in the last year or so, studios that were only producing flops. Besides a lot of those employees got jobs at other Sony studios. Insomniac didn't run away from them, they simply wanted to be 3rd party just like Bungie. Insomniac is working on another Ratchet and Clank game exclusive to PS3. Troll harder bro.
You don't seem to know much about revenue and profits so let me try and explain why Microsoft is NOT going to buy AB. It's not worth 10 billion. Think about it, AB made about 1 billion in profit last fiscal year, and that's with massive COD sales and 10m WOW subs. If WOW and COD numbers stay at this level, it would take MS 10 years to break even, actually longer considering 40% of the COD market would be on PS. It's clear that COD has begun it's decline and it is not a smart idea to buy them now, plus MS would only get 60% of the profits. And, Xbox is already the preferred COD platform so I don't see it help system sales that much more. Especially when they already have a massive FPS franchise.
Besides, MS has already said no to buying AB.

The Blizzard side could possibly gain value from a Microsoft purchase, as Microsoft would doubtlessly force them to offer their products at least on the 360/Durango, which is one console more than they currently offer products on, but would not preclude them from continuing to work on PC. Activision would be the kicker, but really, isn't Call of Duty the only real franchise they have left? Possibly Spyro, but that would remain with Vivendi...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
