I'm from Spain, I've spent the last 1/3 of my life (7 years) in the UK and just about to move to Japan (just a few weeks!!!). Voted Europe obviously.

I'll keep the likes/dislikes short because I can talk about this for ages.

Spain like: Good food, good weather (not so much where I live though), good life, unless you're affected by...
Spain dislike: Economy is utter shit.

How come? Hasn't all of Spain got Mediterranian subtropical weather?

None of it is subtropical and not all is mediterranean.

Edit: here's the wetaher forecast for my city for the next week: http://www.eltiempo.es/bilbao.html

As you can see it's gonna rain 6 out of 7 days, and we're talking about summer, when it usually rains less.

That's shocking. Only around 22 degrees during mid-day? That's the same we have where I live in Sweden (just south of the middle). And our weather SUX.

Yes, the sky's totally covered with gray clouds, so the temperature can't go up much. However, when it's sunny the temperature goes up very quickly.

There are several climates in Spain. Oceanic (mine), Mediterranean and continental are the main three. And yes, where I live it's not dry at all, it's very green and my region is 50% covered in forests. There are also loads of mountains so with the humidity it gets really misty sometimes.

Here are some pics:

It's more or less like that right now. Last July it was rainy and cloudy all month, so real summer didn't start until August. This year it's happening again. Most years it does get hot and sunny by this time though, but except for July/August it's sunny less than a third of the time probably.

The Sub-tropical region does cover most of Spain, but latitude isn't the only factor in determining climate... Central and Southern Spain are relatively well protected from the Atlantic for example, wheras Northern Spain isn't.

Huh, I didn't know that. We don't learn about subtropical cliate at school, as I said we divide it in Oceanic, Mediterranean and Continental.

I live on the northern coast so outside of subtropical weather anyway.

Well Mediterranean climate is considered sub-tropical, and according to this map the only bit considered "continental" is the little pink blob in the middle of Spain http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Europe_Koppen_Map.png

Most of central and Southern Spain is in the "cold semi-arid" climate.... though sounds a bit odd calling it "cold"

oh and most importantly, if you guys ever come here, you need to visit the tepuys (the oldests lands in the whole world, from the precambrian) they are just breathtaking and EPIC.

Those pics were amazing.  Shows you that erosion can make some pretty beautiful landscapes.  Do you guys have a lot of national parks there?  I hope at least the tepuy are a protected area.  Looks like it considering there isn't much but nature in those pics.

"The word tepui means "house of the gods" in the native tongue of the Pemon, the indigenous people who inhabit the Gran Sabana."

All this talk about nature reminds me that I need to post some good nature shots that are in the USA.  We have a decent amount of varied environments considering our size.  However, those lucky people in New Zealand seem to have the most varied for the size.

yes!!, thats exactly what tepuy means :D . oh of course, thats a protected area, its a national park  "Canaima" wich was declared a world heritage site. its actually one of the biggests national parks in the whole world.

yes we have a lot of natinal parks here in Venezuela, but you know, there is not to much education about the enviroment here, and well most people dont really care about ecology, protecting nature and climatic change due to man actions, is not on their most important topics :S and they do whathever they want. there arent to many laws regarding about this subject either. but thats starting to change, like in a lot of other countries too i think.

by the way yellowstone and the grand canyon look damn epic!. :D
