The thing is, times are tough right now, with the recession and all. I lost my job, my girlfriend left me, and I got evicted. I had to move into my parent’s garage with no heat or electricity. None of my friends even talk to me anymore. On top of that, my goldfish is sick. The only money I've been making is from cheap labor at a neighborhood convenience store. They don't pay much, but it's enough to get by.

The only thing that's been keeping me going is the assurance that my PS3 is safe, and that one day I'll have the money to buy electricity so I can play it again...just like old times. But yesterday, I got fired from my convenience store job for (allegedly) stealing boxes. This hit me hard because I'm unable to pay for food or rent. My only options were to sell drugs, sell my body or sell my PS3....or internet fraud.

I admit my behavior is reprehensible. But....I don't know...I really needed the money. I was desperate and vulnerable. I admit it was fraud and I tried to make the big bucks, but I would have paid the money back with interest if my plan went through. And it would have if Carl hadn't stepped in like that. If it weren't for him, my plan would have went well...I would have only had to wait two years, and my life would be all straightened out. It really sucks. Guess I'm going to have to sell drugs and/or prostitution. If I don't post for a while, I'll probably be locked up or overdosed or worser. 

Jay: What you did, although not technically against the rules, was a pretty stupid and malicious thing to do. In a more formal setting, that could get you into serious legal trouble and I strongly advise that you never do it again.

Kowen: This never really constituted a proper deal to begin with and probably wouldn't have been legally enforceable (though I am not a lawyer, so I could be wrong there). I don't believe for a moment that Jay ever actually intended to go to a court with it. All the same, I do agree with you that his actions were immoral and stupid.

I don't pretend to come close to understanding the underlying law here, but I strongly advise that you both just drop this and move on.

General advice: Don't make bets with actual money on an internet forum. Especially not this internet forum.

LOL, anyone who thinks this would be taken seriously in any setting needs to use some common sense. 

Imagine my post was real, and I really did make the bet one year ago. It still wouldn't be taken seriously because:

(1) It was essetially a completely different wager since it did not meet the 2-day deadline as the initial wager,

(2) Kowen could have easily declined the offer because of number (1), and

(3) There's an entire of chain of requirements and elements for a contract to legally binding. Needless to say, a bet on an anonymous internet forum does not meet these circumstances.

The most impact this thread does is it offers a new wager (which he could decline) and gives the false claim that I made the wager a year ago. That still wouldn't be fraud even if it was legally binding (which it's not).

I'd rather not even have the slightest risk. I'm 99.9% sure it's unenforceable, but that one in a thousand chance means it's still a bad idea.
