There are a fair few games coming out, I don't think many are denying that. But relatively few, if any, are real heavy-hitters. If you want to play that game, then merely look what's coming in Japan that we know about (and there may be more yet) for the 3DS in the next 6 months. It's fairly clear that the 3DS has the stronger lineup in that department, and several titles (MH4, Black and White 2, Luigi's Mansion 2, Layton etc.) which are indeed heavy-hitters.

And it's not speculation. It's fairly clear that this week is a one-off peak and sales will return to similar levels, maybe slightly higher, in the coming weeks.

This is not a 3DS thread. small44 asked a question about Gravity Rush. I answered it. Why are you defending 3DS like if I hurt it? lmao

I'm not defending it. I'm merely saying that a good selection of medium-selling games will do little to help the Vita when it's up against stiff competition. I was just outlining the competition incase you didn't know. No issues here.

The Vita still lacks a real heavy-hitter. And that's a problem. That's it's main problem.

Yeah and you said Vita need more games, so what I did was I showed you where you can see the large list of games coming out for it. No doubt there is a large line up of games. Then what you did next was compare what I showed you with 3DS titles and claiming it is heavy hitters while vita is medium hitters, but I'm confident in games like Soul Sacrifice, Persona 4 and Ragnarok Odyssey to be strong.

The problem here lies within the fact that the 3DS lineup is stronger than the Vita, and it's clear that the Vita and 3DS are competing in the handheld market.  That's why it matters to bring it up.

I'll argue that game could have been Uncharted but Sony failed at promoting it outside of people already wanting a Vita. About a month ago I figured out the game has an attachment ratio in America over 50%. That sure shows it had potential. Gravity Rush is in the same boat and again could have been THE game but hasn't had any marketing.

Because of this I expect THE game to be third party, potentially Assassin's Creed, even when games like LBP PS Vita will be ten times better.

And chill with the 3DS talk. You'd have to really love Nintendo games to think the 3DS had better software its first summer than Vita. Plus how does the 3DS affect THE game on Vita?

In popularity yes but not in quality.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

the question should be more like what is THE game for the Vita? Monster Hunter (Again)? GTA? etc....?

I think Gravity Rush should have been the star of the launch. Vita's own Mario 64. Unique, charming... the spotlight of launch would help it a lot!

It's a not a niche game like most say... but it came out in the worst time possible, the doom times that a system goes through. Uncharted is the powerful name to lift the system in those times, not an unknown game. Let's see if it has legs now.

Anyway, for Japan, I fear unless Vita receives a surprise hit (all big games started small at one point) it's down to two franchises: Monster Hunter or Final Fantasy

It affects THE game due to peoples attention spans being quite low and only being able to focus on a few things at once.  If too many things are coming from the 3DS, it may drown out a lot of the hype for THE game on Vita.  It's speculation and it may not actually hinder the Vita, but it is an equally valid hypothesis.

I think the Vita will be done with in about 2 years. It's the Sega Saturn of handhelds.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

no doubt those 3ds franchise is strong. I'm betting people is not going to over look all the  games vita has when they come to the west. lets see what happens because even the 3ds had a slow start. the difference is, one platform has a large list of games.

Please, posts like these are unnecessary. Let's just have courteous debate without trolling. And as for what others have said, it's not heresy to mention the 3DS in this discussion. It's the main competing handheld to the Vita and it went through a similar period of struggling sales. It's very relevant to what we're talking about here.

As far as the current discussion goes, there's a difference between games people on the internet love and what the general public cares about. Gravity Rush is a great game, but its appeal is niche. Call of Duty is much more mainstream and has some level of sales potential. If one looks at the PSP, its best selling games were titles like Grand Theft Auto and Monster Hunter. As much as I love a game like Jeanne D'Arc, it wasn't a killer app for the system.

Uncharted isn't much of a system seller either. It's a fairly popular series, but it's pretty evident that it won't give the Vita much of a long term boost.  Nintendo has the advantage of Mario and other consistently popular IPs. Sony needs to lower the Vita's price and focus on mainstream titles which appeal to broader audiences (LBP and Modnation Racers are a step in the right direction). This will likely take around 2-3 years, but the Vita will be healthier in the long term because of it.
