Forums - Sony - When will the Vita get THE game.

a 100€ price drop would be the Vita killer App
What I don´t understand about the Vita is, it sold more then 2 million devices and the only game with decent sales is Uncharted Golden Abyss everything else sells like it is cursed. Has any other game even surpassed the 400k mark?

There is no "one" game. Metal Gear Solid 4 didn't propel the PS3 to its current sales position. It got there through a well-rounded library of games and a series of price drops/remodels. Its perceived value changed over the course of the generation. As far as games that could boost sales, Call of Duty might help. Sony needs to convince the general market that the Vita has a good amount of value. This means price drops, lots of AAA titles, and plenty of extra features. One game will never achieve all of that.

Would it describe it as 'THE game' though..  it boosted the sales of PS3 in Japan alone to 77K,  (while it was an achievement that it did 10k a week), the game also was the reason that the PS3 could outsell the X360 in NA for a month; and the people who thought (hoped) that the PS3 would be an total disaster dissapeared...Also finally the first game that was exclusive and could manage an +90score?

I'm not arguing it didn't provide a temporary boost. The question is whether or not MGS4 served as a major catalyst for a sustained boost in PS3 sales. Did the PS3 benefit more from MGS4 or a combination of price drops, new models, and a steady supply of hit games? The PS3 used to consistently get outsold by the Wii in Japan 7:1, but now it outperforms Nintendo's system week after week. MGS4 released about 4 years ago. Again, not saying that a major title can't help sales. Just that if the Vita does see a sustained rise in sales, it will be due to a combination of other factors.

I really feel sorry for some people here if they are serious on this, which i doubt...
Zelda Oot was THAT game and was marketed as it, it has sold 2.7m, im still doubtful if a Vita game could sell that much in the near future...
Gravity what?

Answer
CoD in the west
A new Resident evil, FF or MHunter...possible but not probable to happen...

Everyone is making the same mistake in their thinking that Sony is making. Which is why Sony doesn't have the game it really needs in the pipeline. The platform needs to differentiate, and it needs to really exploit its advantages. That means Sony should be looking towards non linear expansive gaming experiences. If you are to spend four hundred or so dollars on the Vita, Card, and a game. That games need to have serious staying power, and they need to be of a quality that cannot be found anywhere outside of consoles.

I suppose what I am saying is the game the Vita needs are titles in the Elder Scrolls series, Fallout series, or Mass Effect series. Those are experiences your not finding on other portable devices, and their shear size, and quantity of content give them a severely long play life. Anything large open world would be very attractive in the market. I really think that is where Sony should be placing serious emphasis. Get the games on the platform that others are not able to match when it comes to scope.

I seriously doubt an exclusive Vita RE will happen. An FF or Kingdom Hearts is not too far-fetched, but the KH won't show up for at least another 2 years. The verdict is still out on Monster Hunter...I could see an MH4G coming to Vita but Sony would have to get involved.

To put it bluntly, I don't see anything developed for the West making a dent towards hardware sales unless it is a God of War...even a Gran Turismo Vita will not do too much. Call of Duty may do 1.15 million, but even that is generous. No one I know personally would sacrifice the expansive console experience for a handheld version with no proven online structure. Especially if they do not already have a Vita. Ditto for Assassins Creed.

A Price drop will help it sell a lot in Europe though, and that is Vita's best chance for success. The UK and such will carry Vita through the tough times in hardware sales.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Wise words SaviorX

Altough some people doubt it but Orcarina of Time gave the 3DS a big boost and many people bought a 3DS just because of this game, two of my best friends did. Of course they bought other games as well but Orcarina of Time was reason they the Device in the first place.

Maybe Gravity rush boosted the Vita a bit but not even remotely as much as Ocarina of time boosted the 3DS.

Sounds like a good strategy for a console game killer app.

Sounds like a terrible strategy for a portable game killer app.

The Vita needs portable-specific games that appeal to huge segments of the market, not experiences which are demonstrably better in every way that counts on consoles. Positioning the Vita as a console stand-in will only lead to ruin.
