Forums - Sony - When will the Vita get THE game.

There is no "one" game. Metal Gear Solid 4 didn't propel the PS3 to its current sales position. It got there through a well-rounded library of games and a series of price drops/remodels. Its perceived value changed over the course of the generation. As far as games that could boost sales, Call of Duty might help. Sony needs to convince the general market that the Vita has a good amount of value. This means price drops, lots of AAA titles, and plenty of extra features. One game will never achieve all of that.

Don't entirely agree. Outside of Japan I think you're pretty much right. But outside Japan PSV is selling at a fairly sustainable 50% of 3DS. In Japan Vita is performing terribly against 3DS, and I think there is THE game that could bring popularity to Vita. Unfortunately that would be a MHP Vita exclusive title, which I don't think is gonna happen.

Interesting many of the posts in this thread are mentioning games that will not do much, or anything, for PSV in Japan.

Well right now the Vita is too expensive for the general market. It's a good value considering the parts that are in it, but most people don't care about a strong processor or OLED screen. They want an affordable pricepoint and great games. Monster Hunter helped the PSP greatly, but the system also benefited from a lower price point and a relatively strong sales history. Additionally, dwindling DS sales created a gap which the PSP was able to take advantage of. Currently, it will be difficult for the Vita to grow when the 3DS is so popular in Japan. A Monster Hunter title on the Vita wouldn't be much of a boon at this point since the 3DS already has the ultimate prize (Monster Hunter 4).

The Vita has a lot of sales potential, but a sustained increase won't happen overnight, and it certainly won't be the result of one game.

It may be the best game out on the Vita, no-one's denying that (admittadly, it has little competition). But it's no gonna help sales in the long-run. It had one slight boost of around 10k this week because of Gravity Rush, which isn't too bad. But it needs more, otherwise it'll return to the DOMED sales next week or the week after.

Not going to comment on speculations.

I'm not worried. There is tons of games coming out, and all you have to do is look towards the official PS Vita thread to know.

I agree; the situation with the PSP and Monster Hunter in Japan is very different to the one we see currently. There were a number of factors going for the PSP then, but now there's a number of things going against the Vita. But Monster Hunter or Final Fantasy would certainly help, and it would be unwise to underestimate their selling power.

But yeah, a selection of moderately strong titles would do much more to help the Vita at this point than just one huge title, if not just to add a bit of variety for people sitting on the fence.

I think that's a pretty huge assumption, and a wrong one. While it's very likely that the Monster Hunter Portable series is dead or shelved since Monster Hunter 4 is the first main series game to debut on a handheld, if there is a MHP4 in the works for Vita, it will be fucking huge.

No point even trying to comment on this thread it is already full of haters and nintendo fanboys.

There are a fair few games coming out, I don't think many are denying that. But relatively few, if any, are real heavy-hitters. If you want to play that game, then merely look what's coming in Japan that we know about (and there may be more yet) for the 3DS in the next 6 months. It's fairly clear that the 3DS has the stronger lineup in that department, and several titles (MH4, Black and White 2, Luigi's Mansion 2, Layton etc.) which are indeed heavy-hitters.

And it's not speculation. It's fairly clear that this week is a one-off peak and sales will return to similar levels, maybe slightly higher, in the coming weeks.

I understand that Vita Fans are pushing GR right now as THE game to buy the system for, but it's really not THAT great. That said, I hope Soul Sacrifice will turn out to be THE game. I am really looking forward to it.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Thanks for that, I suppose.

Now settle down and contribute to the thread, otherwise posting in it is merely trying to flame other people. Other people have contributed with their views, so if you disagree, the best thing to do is to put forwards your view or not post at all.

I'm not a hater, or a Nintendo 'fanboy'. And I don't see 'THE game' on the horizon. Perhaps you could enlighten us then?

This is not a 3DS thread. small44 asked a question about Gravity Rush. I answered it. Why are you defending 3DS like if I hurt it? lmao

I'm not defending it. I'm merely saying that a good selection of medium-selling games will do little to help the Vita when it's up against stiff competition. I was just outlining the competition incase you didn't know. No issues here.

The Vita still lacks a real heavy-hitter. And that's a problem. That's it's main problem.
