PC isn't a factor to me. Big budget multiplat games are designed primarily for consoles. Hence, if there were technically superior consoles the PC would also get visually superior games. I believe the primary reason Diablo 3 has current gen graphics is so that it's accessible to more consumers. I see people playing Diablo 3 on the same old PC or laptop they've had for years. If Blizzard made Diablo 3 with next gen caliber graphics then less people would be able to play it. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems the best selling PC games generally have relatively low requirements. Which make them accessible to more people. |
But you're still neglecting the fact that developers still have to tow along the proverbial "WALMART PC" for the ride.
That was actually what I was getting at, and that's why I boldfaced that second paragraph.....because that doesn't change.

Eitherway, the current consoles have pretty much hit a wall. For the past few years the visual improvements haven't been significant. The only thing holding developers back from giving us significantly better looking games is the limitations of the current hardware. |
Also,
What are you talking about? What do you mean the current consoles have "hit a wall"
At E3 We just saw BEYOND, THE LAST OF US, and WATCH DOGS.
Those games were cutting edge and looked GREAT, and everyone says so.....everyone.
No new consoles needed.
I've been thinking about it and i came to the conclusion that "significant leap" = "when microsoft announces the new Xbox".

Watch Dogs was running on a high end PC, the PS360 versions won't look anywhere near as good.
TLOU, whilst pretty, was running on practically the exact same engine as U3. It's not like each Uncharted, where they've improved the visuals with each game, now they have pretty much reached the limit. And that's why TLOU isn't running on a newer version of the ND engine, it's running on the same version as U3.
BEYOND is new and looks great, I'll give you that.
Watch Dogs will end up looking great on consoles just like every other game E3 has ever shown.
The Last Of us is cutting edge, and that's why it was nominated for various best of show awards.

Sorry you can't see that.

Maybe we should wait for those games to release before we get too excited about the graphics. And bear in mind these same games could look and perform significantly better on more cutting edge hardware.
The lack of four player split screen games alone is proof we need new machines.

I wouldn't say we need more power for four-player splitscreen. Games like Halo and Call of Duty do 4 player and they look great, unless you're a dirty graphic whore. |
Well put...
Eitherway, there are too few games with four player split screen. I hope this is addressed in next gen platforms.
