We aren't any better when it comes to saving, really. Remember five years ago our economy was in a pretty bad shape, too. It took deep cuts to the welfare state and lower wages to get it back on track. And it's not like the germans acted more civil than the greece right now - the social democrats almost imploded because of it, we still have heated discussions whether unemployment benefits are too low even though there is no extra money to spend (same story as Greece right now) and people are bitching and moaning here about the same things as well
