Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U games to run at 720p, 30 fps.

Dissappointed, we have consoles that put 720p in 2005 already.

Doesn't wipeout HD output in full 1080p resolution and 60fps? That game was released in 2008.

EDIT: Yup it certainly does, what a game.

360 can't do native 1080p.. ps3 is the only current gen console that was designed for native 1080p.. 360 does native 1080p but it's a fake version of it..

How exactly?

look it up on google

Did it. Googled "360 fake 1080p" (without the brackets) and found nothing of relevance.
Care to explain or give me a link ?

Oh great a PS3 fanboy trying to tell me that the 360 can't do something. Very reliable.
I thought you would pull out a decent article or something.

Sry for that I prefer tech geeks like this one: http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread.php?p=1113342#post1113342

WipeOut HD renders the resolution dynamically ingame. While it's always 1080p, it's not always full HD. Impressive tech though.

Still not bad for a PSN budget racing game.

But why are there 360 games that are native 1080p? Seems like a waste of precious frames.

He is talking about upscaling where all 360 games are upscaled to 1080p via a specialised chip, a feature that the PS3 lacks and has caused several PS3 ports to suffer problems due to the performance impact and resolution restricitions imposed by the PS3's scaler that by default only supports horizontal scaling meaning unless you use performance impacting software upscaling you have to have the virticle resolution at ether 720 or 1080p if you want to scale to those resolutions. Which is also why PS3 games like GT5 use resolutions like 1280x1080, whypeout HD actually dynamicly renders from 1280x1080 to 1920x1080 on the fly to maintain framerate and scales up when it drops resolution.

The can't do 1080p on 360 thing is pure bullshit so is the PS3 was designed to do 1080p thing. There are a handfull of 1080p games on both the 360 and PS3 tho the PS3 has a few more than the 360.

First off, microsoft launched 360 hardware that was incapable of handling native 1080p resolution, as microsoft themselves stated that console games would never be able to render native 1080p resolution at a high frame rate.. and then sony proved them wrong with the ps3.. microsoft then released a system update allowing native 1080p resolution support, I really doubt resolution isn't based on the hardware but on software.. And in truth what that guy in that video is saying is true.. as it's been tested out..

mM

The reason that more than 95% of the games are not in 1080p is because both the consoles are not capable of doing it at 30fps.

No they launched hardware that was technically 1080p capable but some higher ups decided to limit all games to native 720p. As you say in your post they releases a "software update" to allow 1080p content. The 360 hardware was fully capable of rendering at 1080p.

You can't "software upgrade" something that is not hardware capable, not at least without a big performance hit. You are talking nonsense
