Forums - Nintendo - New info on Wii U controllers. PRO controller pic inside!

This was the only interesting new thing that was mentioned in Iwata's pre E3 stream. At least this takes care of one of my concerns about the Wii U. The Wii U controller looks interesting and all, but this will be nice for more traditional games as well as third party developers that don't want to waste a lot of time developing Wii U touch screen stuff (like they had to do with waggle controls on Wii games).

Just need info about their online system and, hopefully, some form of achievements/trophies for their games.

Looks pretty good, can't wait to try this out.

No one is talking about this being a separate peripheral, why? what do they mean by separate exactly?

Actually worried about this...If I had to pay an additional 39.99 or more for a controller, I think I will pass and stick with the gamepad >.>.

"For those who are mainly interested in multiplatform games, we will offer the WiiU Pro controller as a seperate peripheral which is lighter and maybe more attractive for longer intesive gaming sessions" .....Or something along these lines.

Nintendo copying again, what a shame

Who's copying who again?

Sony does it better.

At least Nintendo's motion controllers don't look like sex toys.

no even close, move was in developement since 95 and Sony had joystick in their walkman since 82, nice try

yeah, because everyone knows Sony invented the joystick lmao!  And Sony was developing motion controls for game consoles before their first console was even released worldwide?!? Nice fail at trolling there.

nintendo wasn't the first either... and that also applies to several other things they get credit for

Looks good, but the Wii U gamepad looks confortable enough so this won't be necessary.

Since '95? I find that a little hard to believe.

Anyhow it's not about who invented the tech or who used it first in some other industry (Sony has their hand in most of the entertainment world, pretty sure they sold something with buttons on it before Nintendo released the Color TV Game console, "zomg Nintendo copied buttons!")

It's true that there are a lot of baseless accusations of copying aimed at Sony (though I think most of them are just a running joke, and not something to argue over) but whether or not they were earlier ideas by Sony, there has clearly been a number of "me too" episodes from them after Nintendo makes a significant move. The major ones are indeed the introduction of analogue sticks, rumble and the Move controller... yes those things would have leaked into gaming somehow without Nintendo, and in the case of the Move it may have been Sony introducing it (though I suspect it would have been PS4 or even PS5 when Sony 'made a move' to introduce that kind of motion control) The point is, Nintendo instigated those technologies into popularity, and Sony was clearly reacting to it.

The controller looks very solid to me, it uses buttons on the top instead of triggers which allows much faster response and it has convex sticks which i find much better then the 360 ones. I must say i'm very impressed so far.

Why are the buttons below the sticks? Looks uncomfortable to me. I much prefer the Dualshock style like the Classic Controller.

Nintendo have a good track record so I wouldn't worry about it. Since when has Nintendo ever released an uncomfortable controller?

Why are most companies obsessed with putting the analog sticks above the buttons?? I find it very uncomfortable (I hate the 360 controller)

Design-wise it is almost a 360 controller.

Agreed . The 360 controller is awkward as all hell to me. This doesn't look any better and I guess they didn't wanna try anything crazy new either

Don't fix what isn't broken I suppose.

The Classic Controller comes to mind.
