If you don't count various different musou games Dragon's Dogma had third best new ip opening since launch of PS2 (behind Onimusha and Devil May Cry). Impressive. HW sales overall are pretty terrbile though. Even 3DS when you compare it to DS.
More related to next week's numbers, but DQM: Terry is now on sale! Just picked up the 3ds bundle version as well as a standard copy of the game (for my gf.) Quite a few people in there at midnight picking up the game. I saw another guy at the other register also picking up two copies of the game.

Well it's not like a real midnight launch or anything. That store just happens to be open 24hrs (other stores in the chain are not) and they start selling their games at midnight when it becomes Thursday. (when most games go on sale in JP)
Most of the people had pre-ordered I noticed and were just there to pick up their game(s). Some people were just buying them without pre-orders. When I was waiting (before it became midnight), two guys were talking about whether to pick up the special bundle or just a standard 3ds and the game.
The game won't start selling until other stores open later in the day (it's 1am at the moment). I think the game is going to have a nice opening though (and 3ds HW boost.)
