Unexpectedly, Nintendo has maintained a good amount of market share with GameBoy in their darkest day of N64 and GameCube. Now its total Nintendomination. 2008 pacman mouth is closing more :)

johnsobas said: It almost seemed plausible to get 80% until i thought about it for a while. PS2 is gonna lose plenty of market share, and i think more of that is gonna go to wii than it is to PS3. However, the PSP will probably gain market share simply because the DS is reaching the point of diminishing returns, most people that would think about buying it already have it. Already sold 21.67 million in a country of 120 million and it's still young. |
i think that was software pie chart,in which DS will still dominate so ninty has a chance to get 80% this year
Wow!
I took three things from that.
1. Microsoft doesn't sell much software in Japapn.
2. Sega used to actually be a real player (look at 1996).
3. Something happened in 2006 -- besides the new consoles coming out.

Yes, those are software sales charts. It said in the beginning of the video.
I like Nintendo and they make a lot of great games. But Nintendomination seems only benefit Nintendo themselves. If Japan software sales do not increase faster enough, the third party developers will be in trouble. That will make it even worse if the Japanese market is shrinking. In the long run, Japanese game developers won't be able to compete with western game developers (or is happening already?).
It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

1. Yes
2. No, only with Saturn they captured a significative share of japanese market. Sega Saturn was a console for otaku/hardcore gamers . That force was declinig during 32 bit era.
3. Software sales exploded, reverting a declining trend in japanese market, thanks to Nintendo's Blue Ocean ( DS Lite came out in march 2007, that was the final explosion of DS phenomenon ).
